.:Lucky Me:.

[[b:9ebb39a8c2]i]Science wears a new suit
To his coffee, toast and eggs
But he has to skip the stairs now
'cause of two broken legs
whine whine "I cannot climb"
every time's the same
I'd be more inclined to help him
if he could remember my name [/i][/b:9ebb39a8c2]

I think, in general, this portion generally refers to the inadequacy that Materialistic Science has in approaching the ineffable, divine truths of metaphysical wisdom. In otherwords, we see Science, in this paragraph,as it is NOW < in its most modern times, as having gone through a SUPERFICIAL CHANGE ( i.e he has only changed his suit, the way he appears to humanity AS SOMETHING GRAND< SOMETHING RESPECTFUL< SOMETHING WORTHY)- but WE MUST QUESTION< How intelligent is this Science that we all tend to think as true? Has it been able to solve any humanitarian issues, the most URGENT RIGHT NOW< WORLD HUNGER< Has it provided humans with HAPPINESS< PEACE< or has it endowed us with more problems? Perhaps our modern supposition is that Science , right now, is the most advanced it's ever been, but I think this song begs the question, WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE TO BETTER THE LIVES OF INDIVIDUALS IN THEIR SEARCH OF TRUE HAPPINESS?.In other words, now we all hail The New Science, as if it were the best thing to happen to us. but have any of our new GAdgets and Gismos solves any of our most intimate sorrows, yearnings, problems?. Most worship technological advancements as if they have truly embettered our lives- and yet, the grandest irony is that technolgy has hindered us greatly ( hence the broken legs). So many examplesof this can be examined in daily life: For instance, the development of all forms of media, used primarly to bombard humanity with the promotion of materialistic obsession, has mostly served to incapacitate the masses from being able to think independently and excersise creativity. This is just one example that can be exteded vastly, but I think, in particular, that Sarah may in fact, with specific reference to " Science wears a new suit to it's coffee toast and eggs" , be refering to the Modern Scientific Engeneering of Foods, on a literal level, and be suggesting that this extremely unnatural diet, has caused a form of malnourishment ( just as GMO's lack the proper vitamic structure, so we corrode if it is what we eat). BUT, I emphasise, this literal level ( one I am unsure) also works metaphorically: THERE IS SOMETHING MISSING IN THE WORLD OF SCIENCE< AND IF WE ONLY INGEST WHAT IT OFFERS TO US< WE WILL GET SICK, this is a spiritual sickness.

TO end it off, she adds the final punch that she would be more inclined to help him ( SCIENCE) - or inotherwords, teach Science about HAPPINESS< INSPIRATION< EMOTIONAL STIMULATION....everything Science right now lacks, IF HE COULD REMEMBER HER NAME>>>>
IN OTHERWORDS< SCIENCE IS COLD< HE HAS LOST CONTACT WITH HUMANITY< EVERYTHING IS A MACHINE NOW>>>science has no compassion, empathy, sense of idiosyncratic indivuduality....

ILL comment on the other parts later.

[i:1c226910f3][b:1c226910f3]Faith can't fill the dance hall
'cause her powers have declined
But at the beauty pageant
she will always take the prize.
Light, light, Easter white
roll her in the dirt,
when it comes time for kneeling she'll say "you go first" [/b:1c226910f3][/i:1c226910f3]

This song is poetry, and in a way, I feel it is necessary to point out that commentary can never relate the meaning that one can experience through direct engagement with poetic imagery and metaphors. It has been said, we can only point to the truth, but we can never communicate it. This means, that to experience the meaning of this song, one must have an intimate interaction with the concepts Sarah is trying to allude to...and to do this, art is the best means of communication, since it invites internal experience.

What I find most interesting about this portion is the central irony points out about our current humanity. Externally, it is quite fashionable Now-a-days to complete denounce any faith in the Metaphysical- the angels- the Gods...That is, it is no longer a part of, a least, WESTERN popular culture to be religious- hence, faith, can no longer fill the dance halls. But, what is further interesting is that, although people CLAIM to have no interest in DIVINITY, Sarah points out that, nevertheles, people still value the DIVINE PRINCIPALS OF CHARACTER that essential constitute what it means to be a religious person- in the truest sense of the word. IN OTHERWORDS<people can SAY That they have no interest in GOD, but they cant help admiring the universally good principals of honesty, generosity, love, kind-heartedness and so on....HENCE, Faith always takes the prize at the beauty contests....or in otherwords, EVERYONE VALUES these eternal principals. I think, what this essentially alludes to , is the fact that Humanity has a connection with God, despite their denial, through the very act of APPRECIATING GOOD QUALITIES>>>FOR Sarah, and many scholars as well, GOOD QUALITIES ARE GOD HIMSELF. Which is quite interesting to reflect upon...This is why they say Angels are always by your side...quite literally, they are a part of your own mental and emotional constitution...

Another interesting note in this fragment is the connection sarah makes between ART and Religion. Faith can't fill the dance halls, which quite means, that Art filled with anything divine is no longer attractive to the masses...hence, our common art is filled with negative messages, impressions, imagery, and provoke hatred, sepration, egotism, vanity and essentially, every thing that disconnects us with our own goodness. I SAY, turn on the radion, TV...etc..
Perhaps, Sarah is commenting on why her music, which is infered to be faith driven, cannot be popular to the masses.
AS MY DAD SAID THE OHTER EVENING, as I WAS listening to NIGHT BUGS
" Her music is off the BEATEN TRACK"

I liked that saying...

ENJOY!

At a Toronto concert this past December, she described her visions of faith and science as an elderly man (science) and a young, beautiful woman (faith).

I wish I could remember more of what she said, but I loved it, because it fit with the images the song led me to imagine.

Dude, "I am the walrus." I absolutely dig and respect your viewpoints. Sometimes, music is just music and the meaning is in the melody and power of the music itself. It's like, lyrics are merely the color within the outline of a masterpiece. They are nothing more or less than the choice of color to the cheekbone. If you analyze too much, the beauty and freedom of a spontaneous creation can be smoldered with the need to crystalize the truth within the very bosom of its soul. Let it be, and keep living life. Not everything has a tangible label, and the need to understand anything comes from a lack of realization that we are all connected in every vapor of the morning glow. Rejoice that you are alive and go meet someone new. With love, and admiration of your colorful passion, Jim Houck.

Be the change in the world you wish to see.
