Up on the piano, I see the traffic
of her existence. After a few
drinks, the notes fade away
and softly hug the corners
of her true, north voice.
The spotlights look like
distant cars, aimed to come
and crush her off the stage.
She plays and whispers the
lights all down to reds, though,
and calms the temperance of
anyone who'd dare their impatience
before her. She places different
compartments on the highways of
October nights, slowing brute cities
to the paces of her polished wilderness.
