I've really been feeling this song lately -- and for more reasons than before.

When I first heard and fell in love with the song it was for the sheer joy being expressed, for the wonderful musical elements of it... but I've finally hunkered down and delved (?) into the lyrics and really feeling them. In case we dont' know what they are:

I put my head back
Where it belongs up there in the clouds
I'm spreading love like
a terrorist now

O what a morning
O what a day to be alive
Sweet hope is glowing
In your glorious eyes

Pushing paper ain't enough
I bet you think that you're so tough
But all your green won't mean a thing at all

On day one,
Day ONE

After Boy Wonder
After the dream came out of the mines
Bus boys and bankers
Were wiping their eyes

Be still my lionheart
A revolution ready to pounce
All passioneers
Up and out of the house!!

Beauty faked a heart attack
But now I feel it coming back
And all your green won't mean a thing at all!!

On Day one.

I want to talk more about how great these lyrics are... but words can't express it. I'm really connecting with this song lately and it's become somewhat anthemic... there's something building within me, I'm sure.

~ If this is the car, that I must drive to the job, that I must keep for the house, and a man I don't love; count me out. ~

~ Sweet hope is glowing in your glorious eyes ~

This has been such an empowering song for me lately. I graduate this year and until a few months ago knew what I wanted to do (teach) and was on my way to doing that.... then I changed my mind.

I love the lines: [quote:599d6c31e5]Pushing paper ain't enough
I bet you think that you're so tough
But all your green won't mean a thing at all... [/quote:599d6c31e5]

I'm giving up, or at least putting aside, a job because I want to find something that makes me happy, not something that has to make me money right away...

and that's my idealistic overshare of the night Wink

...if this is all we've got to fight for, rage my darling rage...

Those lines in particular hit me today. I swear, between this, Bank Accounts, and Count Me Out, Sarah makes me want to quit my job! lol

I don't know if there's any truth to it but I heard that it was initially written as a theme song for a tv show.

It is interesting how different people connect with the song and come up with their own meanings for them, even though that may not be the meaning that Sarah intended. This song is supposed to be for the musical, and it will be even more interesting to see the context that the song is in for the musical.

I myself have connected to a few of Sarah's songs, namely Count Me Out (when I first heard her sing this, I almost thought she was picturing my life when she wrote this song). It was surreal, I am pretty sure that time stopped for me in those moments.

~Love me for stupid reasons, I like those most~

Agreed 100% on Count Me Out. And I, too, really look forward to seeing what form it takes in the musical.

I don't think she ever wrote it specifically for a television show, but she's commented that it was written in that style... i.e. it COULD be a television theme.

I love this song. I first heard it way back in 2002 and I was craving it so badly after hearing it that one time. I can't even pick out favourite lines because they all are perfect together.

"I don't need you to buy me dinner. I just need you to love me."

When i was choosing my wording for my last post I har originally typed that it sound's like a them song for a tv show. i normally don't listen to those songs in my car.

Cool that it was actually considered for use in one. I thought it might connect with her musical.

I too LOVE Day One - its the first song of Sarah's that captured me as I "discovered" her last fall and it never fails to brighten my mood with its wonderfully uplifting spirit and lyrics. Big Grin

The "TV show" might have been Boy Wonder, Sarah's theatre project? Maybe? Don't quite know.

Hmm, I haven't ever heard "Count Me Out". Sounds beautiful, though.

Oh, but it is. Cross your fingers that she plays it next time you see her. Smiler

The mood definitely wasn't right for it last night, but that's probably a good thing! hehe

haha!

we were talking about that at the post show gathering... something about sarah saying it sounded like the theme song to "growing pains." After some seriously painful brainstorming we ended up in a somewhat coherent rendition of the theme song, which, in my opinion doesn't sound anything like day one.

but... it made for good laughs!
