I found this earlier today. From Tvashtri on live journals.
[quote:bb99c88112]Anyone know what the ? in the chorus is? What does the A move to? Song by Sarah Slean (obviously), chords reverse-engineered by Tvashtri A E Whatever happened to Duncan? A E He was a good boy they say A G# The girls all wanted him to dance with, F# B The boys to play, to play A E When the policeman came knocking A E She didnt know what to say A G# Except his shoes and socks were all gone, F# B It seems he ran away E G# Oh you fool you fool! F# B Sad but on your way G# A Well the army never turned his crank F# B A (open chord sounds best here) But love sure made him brave A sweeter infatuation Oh youd be hard pressed to find He loved so deeply and madly He nearly lost his mind And oh behold the mayors daughter She was a treat for the eye Why this is the only thing to live for Just made you want to die! Oh you fool you fool! Dont give in to fate If this is all weve got to fight for, Rage my darling rage! Duncan good for you! Sad but on your way Well the army never turned his crank But love sure made him brave This is holy war! We must fight and fight again And go a thousand times for the sake of love But never once in vain[/quote:bb99c88112] if you know the answer to her questions, might want to pass them on. Aha! tvashtri!! Iv'e tried to convince her to join these boards; i know she still lurks on navy-soup.
Though I don't see the original on her page anymore. ~ If this is the car, that I must drive to the job, that I must keep for the house, and a man I don't love; count me out. ~ ~ Sweet hope is glowing in your glorious eyes ~ |

Oh, thanks very much for posting that, Cam! That looks great. Gonna try it out some time. Maybe if I'm lucky enough, I'll figure it out. Unless someone else knows already, then even better.
Cheers. [You give them your music, but they just want a song] |

In the live version the key is different. Nic and I were talking about it and she said that Andrew didn't use a capo at the Phoenix, but I think he may have at other shows, or he barred it the whole way through. I didnt really pay attention any of the times I saw Sarah cause i was enjoying the song so much

We must fight and fight again And go a thousand times for the sake of love But never once in vain[/quote:c10f3ee376] Okay.. I'll just make a few MINOR corrections... the G# chords indicated are all G# MINOR... for clarities sake... same goes for F#.. they're all mino and not major. Other than that, the verses are fine. Chorus: [i:c10f3ee376]If this is all we've got to fight for[/i:c10f3ee376] is actually G# minor, C# minor, C# MAJOR. That's my favourite part to play haha. Same goes for [i:c10f3ee376]Well the army never turned his crank[/i:c10f3ee376]. Also... a couple of the F# minors you used in the chorus, I used A majors... I think I like your way better though! I'll have to have a listen to check it for sure... Hope I was of some help! |

Thanks everyone for the replies. This was really helpful indeed. I kinda like Jarita's version better... with the capo on. And thanks Jilla for the clarification.
Cheers. [You give them your music, but they just want a song] |

Chorus: [i:0ad6fa9a0e]If this is all we've got to fight for[/i:0ad6fa9a0e] is actually G# minor, C# minor, C# MAJOR. That's my favourite part to play haha. [/quote:0ad6fa9a0e] D'oh! that's the chord i'm missing in mine .. A major with capo 4 for the go between after Am and before Dm! I edited my post with that change ... Damn, and it was a measley A major all along. and i sat there for 5 minutes wondering... damn I need this note ... what chord would have this note?? and yeah, that is an awesome part of the song, I *heart* clever chord progressions Don't panic, I'll get the arc, you get the animals. |

At my guitar lesson tonight, I learned another way to play it. It sounds really good. I can type the chords out here if anyone wants me to.

Please do Flare. I'd appreciate it.

Do we get to *hear* your version too? hehe. I'm impressed about the amount of you board members playing. Cameron |

awesome! we have so many versions of Duncan now! CD, live, everything!
Don't panic, I'll get the arc, you get the animals. |

This version sounds pretty good too. Thanks for posting it, flare.
Cheers. [You give them your music, but they just want a song] |

Well REALLY, the versions are all NEARLY the same. haha. Just played in different keys!
G major is definitely easier to play in for guitar than A major! I play mine on piano, so... A major is fine by me... learn all her sohngs by just listening to the C anyway... I'm not very creative in my approach! But, I tend to usually get a pretty accurate result! |
