I definitely see where Nikolita is coming from... I still think Nightbugs is my fave Slean album... (I do listen to Day One on almost a daily basis though)

i think I once mentioned on Navy Soup that you'll like Day One depending on why you like Sarah and which part(s) of her music you love best. I loved Blue Parade when it came out but then when Nightbugs came out I thought everything about Nightbugs was what was missing in Blue Parade (for me) ...

and anyways I remember when Nightbugs came out people on Navy Soup had issues with it too ... mostly with her voice and I think some people didn't like the production or the 'drama' of it all either .... but anyways, it's all personal preference anyways... it's not good or bad... it's whether you like it or not which doesn't equal to something being good or bad.

its art, right? Sarah's a gifted artist, gifted musician, songwriter and performer, end of story.

Like any artist different works will affect us in different ways at different times.

Day One holds a special place for me personally, as that was the avenue via which I first discovered Sarah. So, those initial memories and emotions are triggered by those songs. Musically speaking, I probably prefer the earlier stuff. But like I said, s' all good.

Haha. I think you're referring to me. And yes, I adore Day One... the album, and the song. But I can't say I'm a "longtime fan," relative to some of the others that are around. I became a fan a little while after Night Bugs came out, Sweet Ones got me. I do like all her albums, but I think Night Bugs and Day One are the ones I prefer for the same reasons everyone's talking about. What I really liked about Sweet Ones (and the rest of Night Bugs) was the combination of the pop-style with really intelligent and meaningful lyrics, classical instrumentation, and an endless spirit. I see those same things in Day One (sans classical instrumentation, for the most part). I think of the two, I'd still prefer Night Bugs, but only by a slight margin. My attraction to Day One (the song) was the sheer joy in it, and once again all the above things... I was SO disappointed to hear it done with digital trumpet rather than live solo, but I'll live. ANyways, that's my two cents... I think Nik hit it right on the head about the time you started liking her depending on your taste in that type of music, not vice-versa.
