aw share your thoughts on the weak song Smiler

To me the secret song would fit that description - not too much a fan of that.

The hidden track is great: it's poppy and bright and catchy; and you can dance to it Big Grin. Her 'oohhs' on the bridge sound so pure.

I thought the weakest track is 'When Another Midnight': I have a problem with the cadence of the lyrics; and synth-strings, in general, do not sound real; the 'chorus' is great, however.

'Mary' just rubs me the wrong way (no sexual inuendo intended): it's too Sarah McLachlan-post-'Fumbling Towards Ecstasy' (I also get visions of Mary of immaculate conception, for whoever said that earlier).

They are not bad, mind you; I just would prefer to listen to the rest of the album (which is really, really good).

I Finally got mine from MapleMusic.com! and an extra signed book!!!! i love it, and the CD is amazing, we can see how much Sarah has grown from Night Bugs, which don't get me wrong that CD was brillian as well, but Day One is something new, and something good.[color=darkblue:554c43cded][/color:554c43cded]

I agree with you about Mary -- don't like the arranging. However, I think When Another Midnight is one of my favourites -- it sounds like she's crying out in desperation at the end, I think it's a very honest song, but that's just me. I definitely agree with you on the bonus track -- I love a chorus of oh's Big Grin

Apparently Mary is about her grandmother. But honestly all i can think of is Jesus' mother when I hear it.

I'm really loving the album, i feel bad that I might end up enjoying it more than Nightbugs, since Nightbugs is supposedly my one true musical love. And is it weird that I feel bad when I listen to Luke Doucet now?

The one weak link for me (if i had to choose, granted that someone had a pistol pointed at my head) is When Another Midnight. I joked with my friend that she was too lazy to write a real chorus for it. Wake Up and Somebody's Arms scream Sarah Harmer for me (makes sense b/c of the producer)

Don't panic, I'll get the arc, you get the animals.

Good lyrics, but there just isn't any real melody to it, is there? I am being super, super critical, mind you: it's real easy to do when you are relatively anonymous.

... but Sarah Slean is much, much better. I won't win a lot of friends by saying this, but I thought Sarah Harmer's latest album, with the exception of 'Dandelions in Bullet Holes', was blah; it was just 'there': nothing stood out.

But enough uber-criticism: the album is fantastic; amazing; brilliant (said the gushing fan-boy).

i'll agree and disagree with you there... i thought harmer's album wasn't that bad. but not better than 'You Were Here' of course. and ya, 'Dandelions in Bullet Holes' is my fave track on the album too.

Cheers.

[quote:4ffb77f4eb="wootam!"]i'm so in love with this album it's pathetic.

i'll be walking in 6/8 for the next month.[/quote:4ffb77f4eb]

Very well put lol..

Yeah it's one of those albums that instantly changed my mood after i bought it and put it into my car stereo... I was driving along, looking at the autumn leaves and absorbing her music and lyrics. Felt pretty artsy fartsy there for a couple minutes, so I turned it down... Didn't want to get too overwhelmed lol

Loving this album so far, wow wow wow

Thank God for Sarah Slean

ya, i knew about the maplemusic.com promotion. thanks tho. so it's just a signed booklet then, as in the one that comes with the regular version. i thought the "book" was something different, that's all.

Cheers.

Well, personally I adore the whole album.
I bought in on the spur of the moment because the whole thing looked so purdy, and I don't reckon I could've made a better choice.
I love Vertigo, and Out in the Park best, although they are all so awesome.

I really need to go out and buy her other albums.

I love the album so much. The first time I heard it I couldn't believe what I was actually hearing, it was almost too good. Sometimes I skip Mary, not so much anymore though. The artwork is breath taking, very unique. I wish I could have half her talent, I'm lucky if I can draw a stick man. :P
