[b:fc29f8f73e][color=indigo:fc29f8f73e]I realized the modern music that I like is a symbiosis of bass and drums," she says. "I made a decision to have the piano be mainly my writing tool for this record."

"With each record I want to do something different," she says. "I realize [the rhythmic direction] may lose me some fans, but I'm not making music to keep fans. I'm making music because I'm inspired by the world, and I have something to say. I hope that's why people are my fans not because they want me to make the same record over and over."[/color:fc29f8f73e][/b:fc29f8f73e]

She said it better than I ever could! Yay Sarah!

Ahhhh, I guess that answers the question for those who wondered where the piano disappeared to on this album compared to the last.
Well said indeed.
Where did this quote come from?

Cheers.
[You give them your music, but they just want a song]

I can understand Sarah's need to explore as a musician -- one wouldn't expect any less of her. I just wish that there were actual instruments for more of the album and less synth, but that is a personal preference. I think her music is powerful enough for that. I don't want to critisize, but the drum kit/synth at the beginning of Mary isn't my fav, even though it's a beautiful song.

I read a quote somewhere, (was it somewhere on this website?!) that when Sarah was in her cabin in the woods she was listening to her favorite artists, Radiohead, PJ Harvey, Bjork, and trying to tap into what they understood that she didn't. She said she has already mastered harmonies and realized that the missing element was rhythym. I couldn't agree more. I love the fact that she isn't like Alanis and uses more than one beat! Like PJ Harvey, she's discovered rhythm isn't just drums either, listen to the cello in "When Another Midnight", and then listen to the final track on PJ Harveys new album. Did anyone else notice the little sampling of the "Idioteque" beat in this song too? I love it, I love it, the layers, the guitars, the beats and anyone who misses just the girl and her piano, she already made Universe, listen to the new album and move around to it, it totally rocks!!

I got soul but I'm not a soldier...

i LOVE the new "beats". as much as i will never stop loving nightbugs, i'm glad the piano isn't at the forefront this time. i think she's creating a new energy that will last a long time. and i totaly agree with what she says. i'm a fan of her's because i like her creative energy, and don't want her to just keep making the same record (although i would still love her if she did).
