I'll repost what I said in the Nightbugs Hotel (*sniff* waves goodbye)
...

All I can say is... Wow.

I've only given it one listen through and I was just mesmerized. One thing that really stood out was the new twist on an oldie, "Vertigo". Absolutely loving the new take on it. The whole thing is just fantastic. My favorite at the moment would probably have to be "The Score" or "Vertigo" - but honestly I cannot decide for sure after one listen.

But my favorite thing about the album is the artwork. The entire thing is beautiful. The artwork is worth the price I paid and more. Makes me want to paint my walls.

wow.

I agrees!

I should edit my topic, I think Vertigo was my favourite song.
The illustrations were amazing.
I wish I had that talent.
*sighs*

I'll miss the Nightbugs hotel... we had our own little Newfoundland topic.
I'll have to repost "Come back to the rock!!" Or get Jill to.

Listening to it on the car ride from the music store to school, I was already in love with it.

Holy guacamole. She's done it again. Like others, I listened to this jewel on my way from the music store back to the university...and then again during class...completely ignored the lecture for the day. Absolutely mesmerized. Only one thing, I wonder - how are the live shows going to be structured now? I have only ever seen her solo with the beloved piano...now with all the electronic twists...? Either way, it will be amazing. I love Vertigo as well, but I think that my favourite is California (I sang it last week at one of my own shows, and people loved it). From what I heard when it was done live, it is completely different on the album, but absolutely amazing. Loved the different takes on many of the songs I heard last Fall!!! WAHOOOOO!!! She comes to Calgary in less than a month! I pine, I perish...

On first listen, I have to admit that I was dissapointed... I was expecting a lot, and I was expecting compltely different. Where was the piano? I wondered... Too much rock!

I listened to it again yesterday and my mind was changed. It really is a brilliant album, and I'm glad that I'm able to love it as much as I was hoping to. I do, however, still have some issues with the production on a couple of the songs. But I won't complain, fantastic album!

yeah...i don't really find it as emotionally charged. maybe just because it doesn't seem as dramatic to me as her older stuff does. i really do like some of the songs on 'day one' though and i hope the others grow on me.

I'd say its the most "dramatic/emotional" piece of work she has done. Can't wait to see her live because I know its just going to be so much more 'lively' and 'fun'.

Oh, I should also note that even when I didn't like the album, Your Wish Is My Wish made up for it. What a brilliant song. Its in the same vein as John 23rd, which is still my favoritemost Slean song.

Fave song, eh? Tough question, there really isn't a weak spot on this incredible CD. Each listen, and its been constantly spinning since I picked it up on Friday, yields a new "favourite". But I suppose if I had to choose, I'd go with "When Another Midnight"....I mean, damn..."It's Socrates weeping in a wheelchair".

I'm really bowled over with Sarah's lush, rich lyrics.

I am so enjoying this CD, its ridiculous.

later,
JO

'Day One' is brilliant. After hearing her performance with the TSO, I had high expectations. The new album has easily met them: from the gaudy theatrics of 'The Score', to the simplicity of 'Wake Up' (Aside: 'Wake Up' reminds me of 'Blackbird', for some reason)

There is, arguably, one weak song; but it is only weak in comparison to the rest of the album (and in my opinion, of course).

As much as I loved her previous recordings, I find that they pale in comparison to her latest works.

'Day One' is just really effing good: I can't stress this enough, people.
