Sadly I only got the tail end of it.
I had it marked on my calender and everything!
I just had to go to a Eurotour meeting that ran a little too long.

Hopefully it will be released so I can see the whole thing.

I really liked one of the songs towards the end... something about black moonlight?
Crap, I forget.
She was singing it in the cell though.

I found the movie pretty entertaining, even though the directing was mediocre. Though Black Widow worked on a low budget (as with most Canadian productions), there were a lot of questionable choices made when it came to shot selection and editing. At times I wasn't sure whether Mortin was trying to satirize the Film Noir genre, or if I just witnessed a terrible folly.

I was impressed with the acting, especially since most of the main cast are relatively inexperienced-- so I definitely credit Director David Mortin, at least partially, for their performances. It was fascinating watching Miss Slean play a character whose personality was such a contrast to her own, and I thought she did a very good job. My favourite scene was when Tielli came down the stairs to confront Slean and O'Hara. Their reactions were priceless.

Speaking of O'Hara, her acting really won me over. Her timing was perfect, and she made me laugh out loud on a few occasions. Clearly, her sister isn't the only one with the acting gift in her family.

Without a doubt, however, it was the music that made Black Widow. I have this nagging suspicion the whole film was nothing more than an excuse for Mortin to shoot Slean doing throaty renditions of jazz standards (like how Garden State was just an excuse for Zach Braff to make out with Natalie Portman).

Tom McCamus was cool as a ceiling fan in his baritone rendition of Prisoner of Love, while Mary Margaret O'Hara's singing performances were breathtaking as usual. I can never get enough of her unique voice. Anyone who doesn't have her album, Miss America, should definitely pick it up.

Tielli was at his best during the self-pitying Born To Be Blue, but it seemed like the song's pitch was a little too high for him during Wayfaring Stranger. I still enjoyed it; I guess my mind kept comparing it to Sarah's version. And I kind of wish the film ended with Slean, in full warbling technicolor, performing Dream. That would've left the audience with a feeling of ironic optimism.

Yeah I agree- I'd really like to get a copy of that last song, "Black Moonlight". Apparently it's a Perry Como original....and it's available sung by other jazz/swing standards.... but I want a copy of Sarah Slean singing it!

Overall I liked the movie.

Even with all the promos I wasn't too familuar with the story. A great story, very simular to Chicargo.

Some scenes I didn't really like, such as the interogation. That scene ened in sexy matter but the acting seemed to be a low point.

The mother was fantastic. The court scene when she turns on Eve/Sarah made for a great climax. I am currious if original court transcripts had Sarah's line "arghhhhhhhh i hate you". It was well done.

'Black Moon Light' was a great musical number. The background had a strange scifi noise come into it but it was a good song.

It was a complete surprise to me to see the film being ad free. how nice.

I thought it was good. When Sarah sang "Dream" it went from black & white to COLOR & Sarah wearing the red dress.

I saw the film last night. I thought the singing was fantastic. But the film wasn't very good in my opinion. I just thought the plot fell flat and jumped too quickly. More the director's error. I was thinking the whole time, if it was anyone other than sarah slean playing and singing in this role then there is no way I would put myself through the whole hour of it.
