I really enjoyed the movie. GREAT that it was ad free! I think Sarah did a beautiful job of acting and it was great to see her in more of a tough persona (kind of like when she does The Score ...). I agree with whoever talked about her and her mother's reaction when Johnny brought the box with the baby down ...

I really can't put anything in words! I thought the songs were great and I hope that a soundtrack or something is released one day!

Sarah looked beautiful and sounded beautiful, especially in that 'Make Love to Me' song since it sounded like she sang while they filmed ... oh and the look in her eyes when her mother was testifying ... priceless!

Great movie ... I'm glad I remembered to watch!

Well, it was different than I thought it would be. Both better and not so good.

Overall I enjoyed it. The acting was great, the music was amazing, and the costumes and art direction were spot on. I loved Sarah's song in the jail cell and Mary Margaret's lullaby the best.

I have to say though, acting aside, the movie was really choppy. It didn't have movement and a nice flow to it. It was just *bam* they're getting married *bam* she's pregnant etc...

I would love to see Sarah act in another production and I briefly wondered if BoyWonder (the musical) would make it as a movie like this.

All said, Congrats Sarah!

In all fairness she was pregnant before she got married Wink However yeah it was quite choppy jumping from one scene to the next. I think they really needed more time to let the story flow. It's hard to fit a movie sized story into 50 minutes.

I didn't mind the jumpyness at the very beginning though because I thought it worked well with how fast the relationship moved and how Johnny just got sucked into it before he knew what was happening.

Through the miracle of satellite time-shifting, i was able to watch the show two and a half times.

As a movie, i was less than impressed. I'll echo what Joel said, the direction was choppy at best. I thought the script was horribly written and aside from Mary Margaret and Sarah I wasn't impressed with the acting either.

In fact, if it wasn't for the fact that Sarah was starring and that her and Mary Margaret were singing, I doubt i would have had the patience to make it through one viewing.

Having said that, I thought both Sarah and Mary Margaret were terrific in their roles, despite a weak script and a poorly executed plotline. And of course the singing.

The singing was simply delicious.

Sarah's voice was crystalline and seems to be beautiful suited for the time and place evoked in the movie. Mary Margaret still wows me with the range and quirkiness of her vocals. If you haven't got a copy of her (sadly) only CD, "Miss America", get one.

I wasn't impressed at all with the male singing parts - in fact, I thought McCamus' rendition of "Prisoner of Love" was painful. Dreadfully painful. :?

One other point of complaint - the singing was obviously all lip-sync'd. That was both disappointing and poorly done. argh.

I can't see myself buying the DVD, although I'd be first in line for a sound track - assuming i can delete "Prisoner of Love"

Overall, I'm glad i watched it and I think Sarah could do well to do more roles, like this or otherwise. And I wish Mary Margaret would come out of hiding.

Yeah, the lip-synching bothered me too...it was just too obvious

the film was great but i would have to agree it went too fast and choppy. and yeah it reminded me of Chicago... especially the scenes where they were at the hanging place (don't know what it's called...) and it was just this beat playing in the background, much like Richard Gere's tap dance scene. anyways... besides all that the cast was good. and of course, it was delightful to watch Sarah Slean and was impressed of how she played her role. she even had the era's tone of voice in (unless she really speaks like that haha because i've never seen her live).

well done Sarah Slean.

From what I know, I don't think you can get away from musicals being lip-synched. It's a trade-off. Either well-produced sound, or a more realistic shot. And considering that the music totally carries the film, the director made the right choice.

I do agree with you, however, that the lip sync could've been done MUCH better.

Wow! I just watched it now and I have to say I thought it was pretty good. I really liked the style, despite everyone's objections to it. I'm trying to figure out where that warehouse was -- it looks like the one that overlooks the train tracks in West Hamilton... I always pass it on the GO train.... but I could be wrong.

Either way, the music was great, but I thought the presentation was really good too. Art-sy films are sometimes an acquired taste, especially when you're used to the hollywood blockbusters, but I really enjoyed this one. A little macabre, a little extravagant, and little everything really. Well done all around in my opinion Smiler

I finally got a chance to see it and I have to say I really enjoyed it! Sarah's voice was perfect! I have no complaints about the quick pace at the beginning; it was necessary just to set the scene since the film was really focussed on the murders and aftermath. I'm glad to hear the news about the CD/DVD! Something else to look forward too! Big Grin
