My copy of Day One has that strip in the same place, [b:09c415b2dd]joleary[/b:09c415b2dd]. I haven't tried to get it off yet but will soon. Methinks the longer you wait the harder it is to take off without ruining the artwork.

I have no idea what these strange metal strips you speak of are. They sound megalame.

They're security strips Typhoeus... they stick them in teh CD case immediately behind the plastic bit taht the CD snaps into. They CAN be removed by removing that plastic piece and then peeling/scraping it off... however quite often they do not remove entirely (as was the case with my Day One), and leave a sticky mess, ruining the artwork behind the CD.
I, too, echo the sentiment that these SUCK. ~ If this is the car, that I must drive to the job, that I must keep for the house, and a man I don't love; count me out. ~ ~ Sweet hope is glowing in your glorious eyes ~ |

Oh my! Do I have a story for you folks! So, sometimes record stores, namely HMV in this case, like to put the security strips also on the plastic packaging on the outside of the cd's. Don't ask me why... Anyway, my brother and I are shopping in HMV one time, and he starts to peel off the security strips of cd cases, without even realizing he's doing it. Anyway, the HMV clerk decides to have a fit, and said in a very snooty tone "excuse me, please do not do that" and proceeded to go through and check every cd in the column we were looking at to make sure we hadn't removed any more of the strips! Oh, the strips...when I bought Nightbugs, I'd carry it around with me in my purse, in case I needed to show it to someone (no, I have no idea why it was in my purse for so long), and it would beep EVERY TIME I walked into or out of a store with the beeby security gate things...sooo frustrating. Anywho, that's my little rant.

Arrgh...okay, after breaking two of the little plastic tray pieces, I finally got the knack of snapping the damn thing out so that I can get at the stupid little strip. Spent the last half-hour removing security strips....how pathetic is that?? ...jim [i:53cc3dbc5d]there's good love out there, just you wait[/i:53cc3dbc5d] |

Was it the HMV in Halifax? I work there! YAY!
It's funny cuz during the Xmas parade on Saturday, I have two copies of 'Day One' in my pocket that I got during the brunch with Sarah earlier in the day (one was for my guest who was coming to the concert later on that night) and I go into HMV for a minute to get away from the enormous crowd on the sidewalk and on my way out, the alarm goes off. LOL! It certainly looks suspicious having two copies of one CD in your pocket and one of them still has the plastic wrap on it! Lucky me though, the CD cases were cut on the end (as is the case with all CDs that you win from anywhere) so I was able to prove that I didn't theif them. The guy didn't suspect me anyways since one of the copies was already autographed. Funny stuff anyhow. They're supposed to put the CDs on some anti-magnitizer thing or something when they sell them so the magnetic strips don't set off the alarm. "And now I think I'll get through..." |

It's only recently that they've been putting the security tags on the INSIDE of CDs/DVDs... I used to work at HMV, and the security tags definitely saved several CDs and DVDs from being stolen.
They stick them on the back for the stupid people unaware of the security tag system, but anyone that does know about them always removes them (either by tearing them off or cutting them with a knife -- you wouldn't believe how many blood-stained CD cases we used to have in our store from people trying to cut security tags off and cutting themselves in the process) before trying to steal them. I know your brother wasn't trying to steal, but not only does it look suspicious but it is taking away a security measure. CD/DVD theft is a very big thing at music stores (HMV especially) and it always made me feel like sh*t when something was stolen during my shift and I somehow didn't notice the theif. :\ Btw, I've never had a problem removing the security tag from under the CD tray. The thing I have trouble with (which ALWAYS leaves residue) is those damn "security stickers" over sometimes just the top edge but often all 3 openable edges of a DVD! They annoy the ever-living-crap out of me. Even Paramount still has them, despite the fact that their cases now have two clip-type things preventing the case from being easily lodged open. |

i don't find those security strips hard to remove either. as for the sticky residue, i just remove it with the sticky side of the strip. just restick it onto the residue and peel it off again. poof! gone.
but those sticky lables around dvd's are bloody annoying for sure. most cd's don't even have stickers like that... let alone along ALL 3 EDGES! if there's a point to those things, i completely fail to see it. Cheers. [You give them your music, but they just want a song] |

Hmm... I guess the strips USUALLY come off okay, but I've had a few that have just been incredibly difficult... to the point i've given up. Plus there's the potential case-breakage factor.
re: DVD stickers.. YES>... I don't think I even own ONE DVD that hasn't got the front plastic sheet warped from removing the sticker! ~ If this is the car, that I must drive to the job, that I must keep for the house, and a man I don't love; count me out. ~ ~ Sweet hope is glowing in your glorious eyes ~ |

too true w/ the warped cover thing.
that's why it's good to sometimes have a craft knife or something handy... and slice the sticker along the crack of the box. Cheers. [You give them your music, but they just want a song] |
||||
|
But then don't you end up with some leftover sticker?

Perhaps I'm mechanically challenged, but I have a helluva time just getting the damn shrinkwrap off...

haha. Try a small screwdriver...
For CD's I have this cool thingy that came with a CD folder I once bought that actually slices open the shrinkwrap for you ~ If this is the car, that I must drive to the job, that I must keep for the house, and a man I don't love; count me out. ~ ~ Sweet hope is glowing in your glorious eyes ~ |
