I have just finished reading Balzac et la Petite Tailleuse Chinoise (Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress) by Dai Sijie.

It was suggested to me by nikolita. It's a short but excellent read. I'm hoping to watch the movie soon.

Splendid! I am so happy to hear you took me up on my suggestion!

The movie is really great too, but of course misses some of the subtle details from the book.

I am reading "Hopscotch" by Julio Cortazar. Amazing writer. The book is written in such a fashion that it can be read in at least 2 different chapter orders.

His sense of description is absolutely stunning.

Interestingly, it is written from the perspective of an Argentinian writer who lives in Paris with his mistress. You get cuts of text in French, Spanish, and of course, English. Anyone who knows me would understand why that would particularly appeal to me.

[quote:474518e14d="PolythenePam"]I've just finsihed rereading [i:474518e14d]Notes From A Small Island[/i:474518e14d] by Bill Bryson. [/quote:474518e14d]

I LOVE. That. Book.

In fact, I just finished [i:474518e14d]A Short History of Nearly Everything[/i:474518e14d], also by Bill Bryson. That is an amazing book. It's mind-blowing. It deals with everything from the universal to the microscopic, the concrete to the abstract, the prehistoric to the cutting edge of modern... it was amazing. Blew through it in about 3 days.

I'm currently reading the Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. I bought a supercheap edition last week. Such a classic for only 2.50, how could I refuse that?

Sadly, it's The Devil Wears Prada for me ... and I like it!

I bought Suite Francaise the other day ... looks interesting enough that I wrote a song about it. Smiler

I'm reading Please Kill Me-The uncenosered history of punk. It is written like a big conversation between a group of people. It starts off with the Velet Underground and Andy Warhol and works it's way up to present time.

This may be slightly off-topic, but for any people in/around the Vancouver area, the library downtown is having a big booksale from the 12th (today!) to the 15th.

http://www.vpl.vancouver.bc.ca/branches/LibrarySquare/circ/booksale.html

I would highly recommend checking it out. It's almost like stealing books from the library.

The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. It's crazy-long, but quite enjoyable.

Damn I missed the library book sale. Hrumph.

But right now I'm reading Tess of the D'Ubervilles by Thomas Hardy and enjoying it immensely. But I've caved in to all the hype and am also reading the sixth Harry Potter book.

Mordecai Richier's The Street. Bought it in an used bookstore and man it was worth it. Quite funny if you're into satire and racist jokes.
