Wow....f'n ridiculous!

time for a freaking boycott.

For those who aren't aware, there are a couple of great music/record stores in the city that sell tickets without the exorbitant service charges.

Soundscapes - best indie selection in the city, as well as tickets for most shows (that we're likely interested in)
572 College St W
north side, just east of Clinton st in the heart of little italy

Rotate This - great vinyl selection and best ticket selection
620 Queen St. W
north side, just west of Bathurst

I also have a ticket rant...

Tickets for a show I want to go to also went on pre-sale today (not from House of Blues, but the artists website)

Cost of ticket- 30.75 US (instead of the $30.75 Canadian Ticketmaster would be charging friday)
Service charge - $4.20 US
Shipping (international) - $15.00 US

= $49.95 US
= $60.56 Canadian for a ONE ticket!! the show is GA too.

 is that not ROBBERY??!! I could go through the HOB presale that started today, but they charge $18 for shipping. Umm..no thanks. I'll buy from TicketMaster (eeeewww) on Friday.. or if I'm lucky and Rotate This has them I'll somehow get them from there.

IT's funny... it would actually cost me less to hop on a GO Train/Bus to Toronto (from Hamilton) and back and buy tickets at Rotate This than it would to have them mailed from an online order.

WTF?

[u:e22303c5d3]Concert ticket story![/u:e22303c5d3]

The first set of tickets I ever got for the first concert I ever went to were given to me by an old friend who didn't want them (she won 'em). Now, on the yearly anniversary of the concert, she gets a hug. **aww**

A friend of mine has a theory that tickets are getting so price-y nowadays, because no one's buying albums anymore. They're just "illegally procuring the sweet, sweet tunage".

Not a bad theory - that would explain the $300 and $400 per ticket the Stones and McCartney are charging these days

but there's still no excuse to the plundering and pillaging that ticketmaster does

LOL. Pilgrims even!!!

$300-$400 is pretty typical of 'huge' acts lately. They've got to keep their mansions furnished and cleaned!! Madonna's top ticket price when she toured here (i'm sure I've mentioned this before) was $300 plus another $25 or so in charges (since charges are based on ticket price, $25 is fairly reasonable, all things considered). Do the math on any one of these big concerts -- these artists are grossing in the MILLIONS on each show. Admittedly, they have costs (management, booking agents, venue costs, band, dancers, crew, etc.), but these people are making LOTS of money.

As for the small acts... well, they're gonna continue to get fucked hard if they allow these charges to continue that practically double their ticket prices. A lot of artists and venues (and entire cities, in the case of Ottawa) have gone as far as establishing their own ticketing system, or using smaller and/or independent ones to sell tickets. I support that Smiler

sorry to be a bit of a sore thumb.... but I object to the use of the R-word out of its proper context. I dont think the serious tone of the word should ever be trivialized.

Hmmm. Reasonable enough request.

I won't retroactively self-censor, but will keep in mind in future. Apologies if you were offended.

i was going to post the same thing nik. i completely understand that no harm was meant by it, but when it's used in such a flippant way, it truly stings someone who knows what that word really means.

No Rachel, the word in question is "rape".

And i sincerely apologize for any offence my use of it may have brought to anyone. Not for a second would i use such a word in that context flippantly or insensitively.

And not to turn this into a lengthy debate, but the context of my use of the word has nothing to do with the meaning both Nik and Siren are referring to. There are multiple definitions of this word and my usage of it refers very specifically to the act of "siezing and carrying off by force" and to "plunder or pillage".

Regardless, I apologize and have editted my post.

exactly my sentiment... if you want to use a harsh word to bring across your meaning... choose another. but there are far too many women (and men) out there that have experienced the reality and severity of this word for it to be used so casually... and its unfortunate that it is being used in this context more and more frequently... it always makes me cringe.

anyway... enough of that... Smiler back to more random commenting....

I'm going to Calgary on the trans canada trail. It will take about 5 days and I'll be biking over the continental divide, but I can't wait!

Okay, that's amazing. I don't want to say 'good luck', because I'm in theatre, but I don't want to say 'break a leg', either, because I never really understood that one... so... The best of my best vibes are going out to you! Have a ton of fun. Maybe even a barrel of fun. Oh! A barrel full of monkies who are full of fun... This could go on all night. Just have fun!!

ROTFL.

Break a leg would be especially bad... 'cause then he'd have no way home!

Oh, man, that would be so bad... crawling over the continental divide with a broken leg... Oh, man, I would feel so bad! BW, remember that comercial on TV!: "I am Astar, a robot from Planet Danger. I can put my arm back on, you can't, so play safe"!

AHHH! It's dark out, and I just saw my white cat outside the window in the driveway, and he looked like a wee, pale man! AHH! I'm scared now. I need music... and curtains...

Happier note: I found my Mums onld copy of 'Jesus Christ Superstar' on vinyl! Yay! I love that opera. One of my favorites, for sure.
