Christoph, 21 from Vancouver. I'm really tall and I like to smell nice. This is what I look like playing Donkey Kong:

[img:e0877e7890]http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a298/okdink/005.jpg[/img:e0877e7890]

When I was seven years old I fell deep into a pit, in which grew a blackberry bramble. I lay there ensnared by torturous/hilarious pain for quite some time. I thought about it: if I could even get myself untangled from this mess, I would still have the pit to climb up and out of, and in doing so I would very likely tear my dainty little boy hands to shreds. So, I did nothing. And that's a fantastic descriptor for the rest of my life.

My name is Christoph and my Gramps eventually found me. Hello, okay?

I've been all across Canada, from Hull (now Gatineau) to Vernon, BC. But I've never made it to either coast (in Canada, anyway I've actually swam in both oceans in Florida and California). I hope to make it to Vancouver before then, but if not, I'll for sure be there for the 2010 Olympics. Seems like such a beautiful city (my little sister has already been there 3 times!).

Whose Jubilee??? Elizabeth???

I'm so lucky to have been to all but two of Canada's provinces in my life (and none of the territories).

PS when did Hull become Gatineau?

Hull became Gatineau a few years back when the then-separatist government wanted to combine all the cities in the surrounding area (including Hull, Gatineau, and a few others). Despite Hull being bigger and existing longer, they went with the French-sounding name. When Cherest became premiere, he tried to hold a referenum (sp?) in the area to decide if people wanted to split off into seperate cities again, but there was too little voter interest (without looking it up again, I think they needed 40 or 50% turnout, even with a "yes", to go forward with the change back and the turnout wasn't even close).

So the historical city of Hull is now part of the much larger Gatineau.

I'm confused. So Hull is still Hull though, right? Its just part of a city/area called Gatineau?

This past summer, I went to Ottawa for Canada Day (best place ever to be for Canada Day!) and then stayed in Ottawa for a few days after. One of those days I walked ove the bridge from Ottawa to Hull. It was fun to just walk into a different province.. the view of Ottawa, parlimen!t buildings and the river on the way over the bridge was really pretty too.

Hull is officially not a city anymore, but is just part of the now larger city of Gatineau.

LOL OK. So Hull is now to Gatineau as Etobicoke is to Toronto, got it. We Southern Ontarians apparently don't know as much about the rest of Canada as we like to think we do. I did hear about those referenda though -- I believe Montreal's was successful was it not? Or, at least, part of Montreal??

I was going to compare the Hull/Gatineau thing to Toronto, but I wasn't sure the non-Ontarians would unterstand... so I didn't.

the name is justin. considering most of this board is from canada (understandable), my canada stories are as follows:

1)i was born a stone's toss away from canada, in niagara falls, ny.
2)i once spent two weeks in bobcaygeon, ontario on vacation and found it very relaxing.
3)i was bummed to find that pepporoni in canada was in fact canadian bacon (could have just been the three places i ate at).
4)montreal is a really fun town, and that underground mall has a liquor store open all hours of the night. consequently, the elevator of the hotel i stayed at there has a strong motor and will run all night if made to.
5)i have met many canadian authors (wayson choy, alistair macleod, sheldon currie, etc.) through my college and have found all of them, both in person and print, amazing.

that's about all i've got on that end.

on this one, i currently live in rochester, ny again. sarah slean is playing here at the beginning of november, which i plan on attending. i like Cherry Dilly Bars from Dairy Queen, New York Yankee baseball, and i wrote a book called, [i:44510fb7c5]Payday[/i:44510fb7c5], although i've never had a [i:44510fb7c5]Payday[/i:44510fb7c5] candy bar in my life. I like all types of music (except country).

that's all i've got for now. more to follow through time...

i remember one of them was a rest stop between toronto and bobcaygeon. i can't remember the name of the place, but there was a maple leaf in the logo. the other place was a local town restaurant, and the third some mini-chain (i think). now that i think about it, when i was in montreal it was a little funky tasting as well. but like you said, it could have been a string of messed up places.
