The same night all of you had crazy dreams, I dreamt that I just got a job working at Cinnabon (that cinnamon bun place).. but it wasn't at a mall.. it was a restaurant which was set up like Wendy's. They sold hamburgers too, not just cinnamon buns. Anyways, in my dream it was my first day on the job and while I was taking orders, this couple walks into the store and tries to rob us.. but very calmly. No one said anything. As I was making their burgers, they walked behind the counter, each one behind a cash register.. they each pressed a certain button on the register to open it. I walked up behind them and said calmly "You can't do that." and closed the register drawers. A couple mins later it happened again... I closed the drawers again and said "You can't do that." They started to walk out of the store and I thought it would be a good time to tell the manager that two people tried to rob the restaurant. She called the police. Just as she did, the couple came back in with guns and started to shoot the employees and customers. We all layed on the ground so we wouldn't get hit... and luckily, they were only shooting at the back wall of the restaurant anyways.

... then I wolk up. I have the weirdest dreams!!

HELP! I have an 500 word argumentative essay defining our position on evolution and creation due very soon. Maybe tomorrow. My position is that I don't know, I can't know, and honestly, I don't want to. But, I really need to cover some important points about both evolution and creation, and I need some help. Share your views, please!

(I didn't post this on any other boards, because I think that this one will be the best about it in terms of sharing and not offending anybody. And, honestly, I care more about what you guys have to say about it.) :P

hi rachel,

i think you definitely have to put forth your own opinion. i don't want to sway you from going through your own thought process on this matter. all i will say is that i absolutely do not believe the existence of God and the theory of evolution to be mutually exclusive. however to be accept this view, one must obviously be willing to concede that the Bible's story is creation is just that - a story - and be able to see that religion and science can peacefully coexist. it's like the assertion that God heals people through miracles. it can reasonably be put forth that no, God heals people through medicine, which is a product of the wonder of science. i'll stop here because otherwise this could get really long. =)

I don't think I can do this essay. I really don't think I can. I can't explain my inner workings and my guts and my heart and soul on paper. He's asking a wee fifteen year old girl to write her most personal and confusing beliefs down and he expects it to make sence. I just can't. There's a hard lump in my throat and I'm getting light-headed and teary. I just can't explain it...

Rach...don't sweat it.

The greatest thinkers in history have spent centuries trying to answer that question....and the quest continues.

You may be a "wee" 15 year old, but from what I've seen of your posts you're more than capable of articulating your feelings. Those feelings are there - just start typing....let your thoughs and feelings flow and don't be afraid of letting your passion show in your paper.

Good luck!

^^ What he said.

Seriously, you can do anything you put your mind to. And it sounds like this is a topic that's important to you Smiler. Just keep in mind that 500 words SOUNDS like a lot, but in reality it's only a couple of pages double-spaced. Remember that if you can conquer this, you're one step closer to conquering a 20-page plus exhibits report on Management Strategy Smiler

[not that I'd EVER advise ANYONE to go into any sort of program that requires you to take a course in Management/Business Strategy... but that's another rant]

And, to bring this back OFF Topic... an excerpt from my blog tonight...

Tonight's experience has deeply, deeply, offended me. I attended a benefit concert for AIDWYC, the Association In Defence of the WronglY Convicted. Admittedly, I would never have even know about the event if it were not for Shaye and Danny Michel, but that's beside the point at the moment. A silent auction took place, and one of the items to bid on was an original painting by Jann Arden. I budgeted myself a maximum of $500 and starting bidding, placing a bid at $150, a little higher than the initial bid of $100. Everything was fine for the first hour or so, but in the last half-hour I ended up in a bidding war with two other people. Andrea and I lurked near the table and I would bid again shortly after (but not immediately after) each time someone bid. Near the end of the auction, [my friend] Jan joined us in the bidding area for a couple minutes, and she walked over to the table where my bid sheet was and picked it up and looked at it, interested to see what the bidding progression had been like. My bid, still the top bid at the time, was $425. Literally as she was putting down the paper, they announced on stage that the silent auction was closed, and everyone was hurried out of the bidding area. "You won," she said to me, which I was excited about yet intuitively hesitant about as well. They announced that people should go to the back to pay for their items and then claim them at the side, in the area they had been displayed. After Andy Kim and Danny Michel's performances, I found the area, only to discover that I had mysteriously not won my item. I mentioned that I placed my last bid right at the end and one volunteer said to the other "Oh, I think so'n'so took that one." I can't remember the name exactly, but it was one of the people I was bidding against. Supposedly, said the volunteer, bids were written down the side of the paper, which Jan later remembered was certainly not the case when she put down the piece of paper. Minutes before I had come over, I had seen one of my competitors standing inside the velvet-roped area where the items were being kept, proudly flaunting the Jann Arden painting, which implied to me he somehow was connected to the organization [and had won the painting, somehow]. The fact that the volunteers knew him by his first name, too, implied to me he was known and connected. This can lead me to only one conclusion -- he, a volunteer or member or otherwise connected person of AIDWYC, slipped in a bid after the end of the auction in order for him to win the painting. That is sick. Who CHEATS on a silent auction for CHARITY?!?!

OMG... Tanisha... i was going to say the same thing.

Why oh why do people alway think that evolution and creation are opposites?

I saw a pin once that said "Evolution is a tree." I am not entirely sure about the intent behind it, but from how I have interpreted it, I like it.

as for the silent auction neal... that really is terrible.

That happened to me once at ticketmaster at UBC. They give away the playbills to whomever wants them once the shows are over. You just have to ask at the desk for them to put your name and phone number on the back of the playbill.

I was the first to ask for a Hawksley playbill and was pretty excited about that. I went the next day after the show and the girl behind the desk said that someone elses name was on it. I am not usually a big fighter over something so trivial, but I was like, "hey, I bet that other ticketmaster girl put her name on it after me, I saw her at the show" and lo and behold, whose name was there? (incidentally I knew the girl from res)

The other ticketmaster girl got pretty mad and gave me the playbill. I was like "but wont she get mad at you?" and she said "who cares, what she did was wrong."

yay for good people.

I got paint on the hawksley playbill so I tossed it before I moved here... but it was a sexy playbill... aside from that weird diaper belt he designed during lover/fighter.

i have no idea nik. i really don't. and they're so emphatic about it -- you're either with the Bible or you're with Darwin... sounds like shades of George W. i don't understand the need to be so absolute. why it seems so impossible to consider the notion that God created man through the process of evolution is beyond me. then again, a lot of things are beyond me.

i'd just like to say that it's now less than three hours until CSI - but i won't even be watching it! =( it freaks my mom out but she does like The Apprentice (i admit that i do too), so we're going to watch that with her and tape Grissom&friends. i'm also excited about the premiere of Criminal Minds tonight because i LOVE all three of its stars. i love the new TV season. =)

Sadly, in today's society, polarization is the only way people who are wrong can win political and social battles.

If you are pro-choice or against war, you must also be a faggot and a commie.

Somehow, it works. :S

Oh, lord I hate that. I've been playfully called "Red" many times by my friends. I've also been dubbed a dirty, barefoot hippy, as well. But, hey, shoes are constricting...

Continuing in the weird dream thing, and the "Top Ten Signs..." thing... I had a dream last night that I was on a yacht with some people I knew (I'm not sure who they were). We were exploring this yacht and no one knew who's it was. At some point, I came to the conclusion that it was Jim's yacht (joleary) and said "yeah.. this is definately Jim's yacht. I know it is." He wasn't there though, we were just on his yacht. Throughout the rest of the dream, everyone on the yacht kept wondering who it belonged to and I kept telling them its Jim's yacht, but no one would believe me.
