That actually happened to me with Drastic Measures as well. I was listening to it one day and all of a sudden I was like "What song is this?" I love it! I felt kinda silly
"I don't need you to buy me dinner. I just need you to love me." |

I've had the exact same situation. as of lately St. Francis has become one of my favorites.

Still being "new" to the wonderful world of slean, I'm still in the "every listen yields a new discovery" phase.
Having said that, I'm with ya on Drastic Measures, BW. It wasn't until quite a number of Night Bugs listens that it suddenly stood out and hit me over the head. One of my faves now. ...jim [i:53cc3dbc5d]there's good love out there, just you wait[/i:53cc3dbc5d] |

I can't speak for everybody, but I'd imagine many of us who've been fans for years [me since '98] are STILL in that phase It's one of the things that makes Sarah and her music so special! -CB ------------------------------------- If this is all we've got to fight for Rage, my darlings rage! ------------------------------------- |

Took me a while to like St. Francis and Drastic Measures as well. Duncan was an instant favourite of mine. It's my all-time favourite song; I love the sweeping melody and drama of the song.
I've been a fan for over two years and I'm still just getting into some songs. I just started liking Playing Cards with Judas off of Blue Parade. It's one of my favourites now. |

Drastic Measures was the first song I immediately fell inlove with when I first heard Nightbugs a few years back. However I have done that recently with "Me, I'm a Thief". I was obsessive with the song a few weeks back, forgetting how amazing it was.
` I wanna be the bluebird singing Singing to the roses in her yard Roses in her yard her father grew for her It's been raining like Tennessee honey So long I got too heavy to fly Ain't no bluebird ever gets too heavy to sing ` |

"oozing danger, igniting sparks"
Who can beat lyrics like that...really? |

[quote:4d23959f89="spiffylike"]"oozing danger, igniting sparks"
Who can beat lyrics like that...really?[/quote:4d23959f89] In a word, no one. Frankly, its almost ridiculous how creative and inventive and rich and just plain f-ing brilliant Sarah's writing is. Amazing. ...jim [i:53cc3dbc5d]there's good love out there, just you wait[/i:53cc3dbc5d] |

It IS ridiculous...I feel almost impotent next to her talent...try to write lyrics or poems? Me? Not when I can't beat that...

We're mere mortals by comparison.
Mind you, from what i've seen on here spiff, you're quite the little wordsmith yourself. As are a couple of other sleaners...Lindsay and Nik to name but two others. ...jim [i:53cc3dbc5d]there's good love out there, just you wait[/i:53cc3dbc5d] |

Oh the number of times I've said the exact same thing. Actually, it's odd that I read this thread for the first time tonight, because not only did I just discover tonight how much I like "St. Francis" when I'd never really paid it attention before, but I'm also currently having a conversation with a friend about feeling "impotent" when reading her work and realizing your own is nowhere near that. |
||||
|
I'm glad I'm not the only one. I do find, however, that her music/lyrics/art are almost muse-like to me. I always feel inspired to do something artistic when I hear the first few notes...*sigh* and then I think "wait! here comes the science degree..." And then, when I do try to write, it always seems to come out as an imitation. She's an ethereal being, that one...
|

|
So true. I find the exact same thing. For example, last night the conversation sprung from my inability to write anything at the time. I'd been inspired earlier, and I started to write something, and then realized a few lines in: Oh. This is [i:afc28528a0]Eliot[/i:afc28528a0].
