So I was listening to some Slean tracks and I finally (after listening to it about a million times) realised that 'Eliot' is named after TS Eliot. DUH. Makes sense, considering the mood, the tone, the overall gloom. It does remind me of Waste land, after all...it's embarrassing how stupid Sarah can make me feel Red Faceops:.

In any case, it begs the question: What other Slean 'named' songs refer to actual people, and who were they?

I'm doing this from memory, someone please correct me if i'm wrong

[b:76d3efe33c]Mary[/b:76d3efe33c] - Sarah's Grandmother
[b:76d3efe33c]St. Francis, John the 23rd, Playing cards with Judas[/b:76d3efe33c] - obvious
[b:76d3efe33c]Me & Jerome [/b:76d3efe33c] j.d. salinger

Not sure about Duncan, or Bonnie's Song.

Related but not a 'named' song is (supposedly) 'Book Smart, Street Stupid,' which is what Sarah's dad used to call her Big Grin .

BTW. Is Slean's middle name really Hope? That would make her the most cherished being on all of the planet.

Do you think it could be a pseudonym? Like Elton John?

Courtesy of our resident Goddess of all things Slean (nik), here's some further info on a couple of other "named" songs;

Bonnies Song - Bonnie's Song is about Bonnie Fedrau - one of Sarah's earliest champions.

Sigh, I love that song. I get lost in it, everytime it comes on. I swear when I hear it, I drop everything in sight and play air piano a la Sarah in "High".... ahhhh.. such a beautiful song "Eliot" is!

` I wanna be the bluebird singing
Singing to the roses in her yard
Roses in her yard her father grew for her
It's been raining like Tennessee honey
So long I got too heavy to fly
Ain't no bluebird ever gets too heavy to sing `

Again, not a "named" song, but Before Your Time is about Glenn Gould.

Also, a bunch of songs on the new album are from Boy Wonder, namely:
[b:35bb5b56fb]Pilgrim
Lucky Me
Day One
When Another Midnight
[/b:35bb5b56fb]

[b:35bb5b56fb]Out In the Park[/b:35bb5b56fb] is basically her revolution song, she always dedicates it to fans in concert

[b:35bb5b56fb]Vertigo[/b:35bb5b56fb] as mentioned elsewhere, a drive home along the 401 from Kingston

[b:35bb5b56fb]The Score[/b:35bb5b56fb]... not sure :S

[b:35bb5b56fb]Your Wish Is my Wish[/b:35bb5b56fb] A man who visited her in the cabin ("Because I'm human, and humans have NEEDS!!")... who also visited other girls in other cabins in other countries.

[b:35bb5b56fb]Wake up, SOmebody's Arms[/b:35bb5b56fb]... not sure either... anyone?

Oh, and the California guy was 'a liar' in Sarah's words, so I assume he didn't confess he was married.

Blue Parade - the song is based on a dream she kept having after she broke up with someone. it was about her in paris walking down a street with these square shaped trees and leaves would fall down as she walked past. then there was a a bunch of people walking past essentially saying that everything was alright and that she shouldn't be so unhappy. the whole dream was in blue and white which she found odd.

The Score has something to do with black birds I think.
