Anyone else ever wish that they could pick up Sarah's albums on vinyl? I have always wanted to have the Night Bugs album in particular on vinyl. I'm no audiophile but i would love the warm sound and wouldn't the odd crackle. I find that album has a real timeless (nostalgic) sound to it and just seems suited for that format. Sarah's photographs, artworks, songsheets, lyerics, etc could all be fitted on the larger package and already all have been made.

What I didn't consider was if it would need to be a double LP to fit all the songs on it. I know the likely hood at this time of such a release coming out are slim to none. Maybe a single of Day One for Vertigo, Calfornia, Mary, and When Another Midnight.

Maybe K-os can whisper in her ear he wants her on wax. It excites me more then having a release on i-Tunes. I'm not sure if Warner does any vinyl distribution. Beggars Banquet and Mute are the only 2 american opperating lables I can think of.

Would you buy it? Do you think ppl not on this board would? I think the same ppl that would buy the Chemical Brothers on vinyl would grab sarah. Probally some pub DJ would love to be able drop sweet ones Wink.

I agree, Nightbugs does have a timeless quality to it. The entire album would be great in this format, but I think Book Smart, Street Stupid would be the best song to listen to on vinyl. To me it has a late 1920s-1930s Europe (a bit of Edith Piaf too) feel to it and I love the way her voice...quivers in parts.

Off of her previous albums, I think Twin Moon, John the 23rd and Me and Jerome would sound great on vinyl.

Well, as the official "old-fart" of the board, unlike most of the sleaners out there, I grew up in the vinyl world. Still have my trusty turn-table along with about 5000 lps. Would love for Sarah to release her stuff on vinyl.

And I agree with Cam....a vinyl release would excite me ALOT more than an itunes release...depsite how much I adore itunes and all things apple.

Wow, such a great idea! I'm all for it -- such a beautiful sound it would produce!

` I wanna be the bluebird singing
Singing to the roses in her yard
Roses in her yard her father grew for her
It's been raining like Tennessee honey
So long I got too heavy to fly
Ain't no bluebird ever gets too heavy to sing `

I would definitely buy one if it came out. I recently re-acquired my parents' record player and it's collecting dust because I only own three records!! lol.

even tho i wouldn't be able to play it, i'd still get it... especially if they'd somehow alter the cover art, since there'd be more space to work with.

Cheers.

Guys, I'm starting to think of a way how this can be realized. The hamster is starting to run on that wheel tihnking about what records, who would buy it, what price, and from where.

It is late of Night Bugs but that album still can sell and Day One is still young! It appears it hasn't been released in the US yet although I'm not sure if that the right market for a unique offering. The release date, promo, and 2005 tour dates are of more importance. It makes it a good time for selling Slean merch of new and old releases. Not only does that open up promotion opportunities but also a point of sale. Maple and this sites store could do it or link to a 3rd party.

I would be willing to pick up an album for 20$ and single for 10$, far more then what I would pay for a CD. That's the cost I pay for my fave bands weather it be in person or ordering. I think others would too, especially if it's a limiting pressing!

Does anyone know if any simular artists in Canada still release vinyl? (I think Dido is available, but Beth Orton?) Does Soundscapes sell vinyl? Most the record shops I see downtown are dance/hip hop orrientated but I wonder if they will sell it of if ppl would look in such places.

A double release probally is too much but seeing some vinyl from Sarah in the near future does seem feasible.

Jason do you mean she has something released on vinyl already?

I have looked through her old merchandise on her site and elsewhere and have just seen Universe on cassette.

It's a collaboration she did with Spine called the Collage EP. She sings on the track 'Like Her' where it samples weight. Here's a review from 2001...

[quote:f51f668658] SPINE **

Collage EP Independent

Spine taps into a new style for each track without ever establishing one of his own. Collage's success rides on "Like Her," a song propelled by guest vocalist Sarah Slean's amazing range -- this is what Tori Amos' Under the Pink might have been with some input from Coil. However, Spine sounds like he's about to crack under the pressure of providing Slean's voice a sturdy backing. The remaining tracks vary from an awkward meeting of atmospherics and abrasive beats ("Last Man"), to hard tech-hop with vague rhymes ("Last Man II"), drum 'n' bass by numbers ("Like Her remix"), fourth- rate u-Ziq ("The Patriot") and cause for embarrassment ("Freestyle"). I owned that LP... but on a similar purging a year and a half ago... sold it on ebay.

It was so exciting listening to it for the first time. And the song is SO divergent from anything you would imagine from Sarah. Spooky.

Though, the baseline was *very* similar to weight.

ps (I imagine you must be thinking "how COULD she sell it?" well... several reasons: I do not own a record player, I am not obsessed with Sarah (just her music), I needed money, I wanted to get rid of my stuff, and I had a friend format it into mp3 before I sold it.)

Thanks,
it's still for sale too:

So maple does sell vinyl recordings and that's a fair price for a 12".
