It could be a showcase track for the "instrumental/orchestral" feel that the whole album has... it forces you to take notice of the intricate instrumentation that takes place. As for the poem, I really have no idea.

*shiver*
I just listened to it with new ears...have to say, loving it also. Not sure what the story is, but I'd like to use it for soundtrack to something if I ever write a screenplay. Favourite part: about 3/4 through when the strings build...it's almost like agony...I don't know... |

Nothing wrong with intrumentals on albums.
I thiiiink she read the poem/lyrics at her april '02 Toronto show while Dark Room was playing just before she got on stage. Sounded like she was reading it in a british accent, too. |

Yeah the poem is also titled Dark Room and is to accompany the music. I'm not sure abotu the rest of the tour, but I can attest to the fact that at the Trinity-St. Paul's show she was intro'ed with that song (played on live instruments!! I miss the days of Slean with a string trio) and she read the poem over top

that would have been beautiful. I've heard only wonderful things about that show.

I recall reading an interview somewhere in which ss talked about realizing [i:6d27f0da2e]AFTER[/i:6d27f0da2e] the show that she'd performed "commando"..  ...jim [i:53cc3dbc5d]there's good love out there, just you wait[/i:53cc3dbc5d] |

haha really? can't say I noticed (or was looking). It was quite a wonderful show. I remember there being a boy in the front row bawling his eyes out, it was so sweet.

I love Dark Room, although listening to it while walking down the street makes me look silly because it has a tendancy to make me feel all suspicious about things.

From what I had understood she wrote the music and then decided to write a poem to suit the mood. Why on earth she did it, I am not sure. The only thing I know is that this intrumental brings you to your knees. I've loved it since the first time I heard it. Like someone had mentioned.. 3/4 the way in, it builds to this.. insufferable agony. It's such a beautiful piece ---- it actually inspired a novelette I am writing. Something about this piece... it strikes a chord in alot of people. It's powerful to say the least.

it's not uncommon... for example "Pretty Donna" by Collective Soul and "Last Dance" performed by Sarah MacLaughlan, both recorded on the
their respective albums. Those are just off the top of my head, I'm sure there are more. ~ng |

Haha. That's awesome. I think most artists do that at some point... and if it's not an unspoken poem, it's a spoken one... interludes rule ~ If this is the car, that I must drive to the job, that I must keep for the house, and a man I don't love; count me out. ~ ~ Sweet hope is glowing in your glorious eyes ~ |

*spends some time with Night Bugs*
sigh. This is so peaceful and relaxing and wonderful... sheer bliss I tell you. I feel like I'm walking through some hilly country land... and now I'm sad. darn those minor keys. Dark Room truly is beauty all wrapped up into one song. And it's such a wonderful lead in to Sweet Ones. I'd be sold.... ~ If this is the car, that I must drive to the job, that I must keep for the house, and a man I don't love; count me out. ~ ~ Sweet hope is glowing in your glorious eyes ~ |

I think thats why i used the word "intermissional" in my initial post. It just fits so perfectly between "Book Smart, Street Stupid" and "Sweet Ones"... ...jim [i:53cc3dbc5d]there's good love out there, just you wait[/i:53cc3dbc5d] |
