The artists performing at the Calgary Folk Fest this year were announced on Wednesday.
Sarah is playing on the Sunday night. More information can be found here. So, anyone in the area? Going to go? I've lived in Calgary all my life, haven't attended the folk fest yet. Every year my friend and I say we'll go, but wuss out when the date(s) get closer because we hate excessive heat and big crowds. However, this year, we are definitely going to suck it up. I refuse to miss Sarah anytime she visits this city. Will probably end up attending all 4 days. There's a lot of good acts this year. (Not like there wasn't all the previous years that we didn't attend.) Jaclyn |

I think I'll be going!

Well, the fest is finished... Did anyone (other than me) go?
I went to both Sarah's workshops, and was upfront (in the standing area) for her mainstage performance. She was as amazing as ever. I wrote about it in better detail at my blog. So, if you were there, what did you think? What did you think of the rest of the fest? See any good acts? Favourites? etc. Oh my gosh guys, let's discuss the fest... |

I was there too! I made an overnight bus trip on Saturday to make it to the sunday portion of the fest.
The workshops were amazing and I was lucky enough to wiggle my way to the very front of the stage (my backpack was housed underneath the stage for a portion of the day..) It was such a treat to get to see Sarah and Hawksley together and the Edelweiss rendition was great! Sarah was as gracious as ever and stayed after each workshop to sign cds and take photos. Sarah and Hawksley also backed up Oh Susannah during her solo set which was a great oppurtunity as well! I wasn't too pleased with the main-stage show only because I could barely see and the standing area was so far off to the side. Plus I missed the first couple songs as I stuck around watching Final Fantasy (a new favourite). Pictures coming soon! "I don't need you to buy me dinner. I just need you to love me." |

Sweet. Right up at the front? I was trying to get some shade, so while we were fairly close, we were under a tree. Granted there was no shade anywhere for "Life is a Cabaret". And my friends & I were boiling! But it was definitely worth it.
I was going to go to Oh Sussanah's solo set, but ended up lying in the shade with my friends. I didn't know Hawksley was at that one too! (Knew about Sarah) That's awesome. Final Fantasy is one of my favourites. I've seen him in concert before, and we saw him on Friday night as well. I left before his Sunday set was done to go see Sarah's mainstage. I'm kind of sad I missed him perform "This is the Dream of Win & Regine" though. That's my favourite of his songs. Where are you from, BoyWonder? I'm glad that you were able to make it down to Calgary. Were you by yourself? |

Jac, I'm sure that we probably saw each other at some point during the day. Did you get anything signed after the workshops? I'm looking forward to Final Fantasy's show in Calgary in October..
I'm from Cranbrook in BC about 4 hours away...just had to make the trip up to see Sarah! "I don't need you to buy me dinner. I just need you to love me." |

We most likely did see each other. Had we known, we could've been all "Oh man! I KNOW you from the message boards!" Heh.
I did not get Sarah to sign anything this time around. The first two times I saw her perform live, I did. But haven't for the last few shows. I kind of freeze up, and am afraid I come across as bumbling and inarticulate... I doubt Sarah minds, but I try to save myself the inner embarassment. I wasn't aware that Final Fantasy was playing in October. Might have to get tickets for that... So maybe I'll see you there? Cranbrook? I know where that is! That's a lot of devotion, BoyWonder. Granted, I'd probably do the same if I lived somewhere where tour stops are unlikely. |

I was in Europe for a month, yet I'm still jealous of all of you who got to see Sarah and Hawksley together. I'm a definite Folk Fest fan in general now (finally attended my first Winnipeg Folk Festival this year) and one of these summers I'm going to try and go to several across the country.
