Sarah Slean

Sarah Slean is moving to France, but, before she leaves, the multi-talented singer/songwriter/actress/poet wants to add another adjective to her description: visual artist.

Slean and Louise Upperton the artist responsible for those awesome Arts & Crafts album covers will present a showcase of "sinister, peculiar and tenderly psychotic" art in a show called "Bleak House" at Toronto's SPIN Gallery in February.

Both Slean and Upperton cite similar influences including Tim Burton and Edward Gorey but Slean is a painter while Upperton prefers combining digital image manipulation with the layering of organic materials.

Bleak House was named after a Charles Dickens novel and reflects their fondness for all things Victorian. Some of the proceeds from the show will go to the Royal Conservatory Of Music's "Community School Outreach" program, which provides people from three of Toronto's most at-risk communities with instruments, music lessons, workshops and concerts.

The exhibit runs from February 3-19. Slean, the Blue Spruce Quartet and Major Maker will perform at the opening night gala.

ooooooh how good does this look?! It's not as though I wasn't eagery anticipating it before... but then you throw this in: [quote:40c48cc8fe]Both Slean and Upperton cite similar influences including Tim Burton and Edward Gorey [/quote:40c48cc8fe] and I'm more than sold! I knew Sarah had talked about Tim Burton before but Edward Gorey has been one of my favourites since I was just a little kid!

...if this is all we've got to fight for, rage my darling rage...
