On a recent radio interview Alanis Morissette was asked what kind of music she has been listening to lately and she replied (paraphrasing) "Sarah Slean. She has a new album out called The Baroness... A while ago I was in love with her song Your Wish Is My Wish. I played it over and over"
And now there is a two page spread about Alanis and her new album in EW, and accompanying the article is a blurb about music Alanis likes:

When I first moved to L.A. from Canada, I was embroiled in massive culture shock. "River" was my security blanket.
2. SINÉAD O'CONNOR
I listened to I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got a thousand times as a kid. Her gorgeous voice, her raw emotionality, combined with this great loop. Oh! So up my alley.
3. SARAH SLEAN
Her voice is like velvet, and her lyrics are so her. I love artists who are distinctly themselves, and they're not trying to be something else.
4. JUSTINE FRISCHMANN, ELASTICA
Love her. Where is she now? She's kind of my fantasy girl. I want to ride motorbikes with her.
That would be something if Sarah opened for Alanis sometime. I think those who listen to Alanis would be interested in Sarah.

Sarah has opened for Alanis! I saw her open for her in August 2004 in Ottawa. They didn't announce the opening act until the day of the concert, so when I found out it was Sarah I couldn't believe my luck! Her set was previewing Day One. I've always felt so lucky that I got to hear half of those songs in their live/solo form before the cd came out.
And if you bought Night Bugs at the Merch table you got a special preview cd for Day One with 3 or so songs on it (kind of like the night bugs pass-along cd). I wanted it so badly, but of course I already had Night Bugs.
I noticed in a comment on Sarah's Myspace that Alanis mentioned Sarah Slean on Howard Stern, and it's true!
When the topic shifted away from sex/relationships/therapy and Howard asked who Alanis was listening too and who's one of her favourite musician. Alans says she loves Sarah Slean and is obsessed with the album the Baroness. They did put her Juno red carpet picture on screen and Robin said she would write it down and go get it. Both Alanis and her guitarist James denied having sex with her. haha
