It appears that Sarah was in march 29/april's Rolling Stone (dylan cover).

Am currious to know what they wrote up about her (and arcade fire). Cameron Bay. |

I hope it's not just Germany tho. I wouldn't be surprised if she does well all over Europe.
Cheers. [You give them your music, but they just want a song] |

well i have been running advanced google searchs searching online "Sarah Slean" under ".de" domains.
most the reviews have rated her between 4-6 out of 10. You might be right about that being a german only rolling stone, or some other international region. pretty good articles, and a fair amount on canadian music. Cameron |

Hope you can read it, some parts were quite difficult to translate... Whoosh! The Wood Fairy The canadian songwriter Sarah Slean got over the very normal psycho terror. You could call it unfair, asking Sarah Slean right at the beginning about her origin. To ask her about her opinion of the "canadian thing" which the Canadian kp couldn`t really explain in her tired "Hymms of the 49th Parallel". But it doesn`t sound like pure politeness just to break the ice, hearing the 26 year old girl from Totonto answer: "Well, that`s a good question..." Sarah Slean talks in high spirits of the tradition, of the well known names and of "the new crop" which becomes increasingly popular and in which she takes part. There has to be the delimitation to "our southern neighbours"; less hunger for fame, less violence, in short:" We don`t jump that directly in your face." Thanks for that. Further:"We have the time and the space to think. We have a contemplative culture." Slean had, according to a promo- announcement, as much time for contemplation in the seclusion of a cabin, that she comes up optically with two faces on her new album. On the cover of Day One she represents the red-mouthed incarnation of the younger Christine Kaufmann. On the back: Slean presents herself as a pale, fallen angel, who got over the "Sinkflug" (sinking flight?) Yes, Slean says happily, the album ought to be "like a book". So to say: A long journey, the whole story, the "metamorphose in the forest". The blue feather in the hair mutates to wings, growing out of her back. "We fight and learn." Evidently, that aren`t original/creative pictures for the very normal psycho-theatre, which came to Sleans mind, up there in the reflective Canada, but fortunately her main occupation isn`t art-directing or writing books but being a singer/songwriter. Being that, she manages brilliantly to combine the funeral march to "California" with the very rising sun in her album Day One; a woman who forgot in the meantime where her head stands and if her heart still beats. For shure,it`s beating again, quite strong! "Im spreading love like a terrorist now" threatens Slean in her lively titlesong - her answer to Richard Thompson, who was well-known for being from time to time in such a good mood, that he had the urge to break the heart of anyone he could find first. One can compare her to the rest of evident people, especially to women at the piano. But then you can forget about all of them. About the compared people, but maybe not about Sarah Slean that soon. aww, thank you very much for getting the magazine and translating it.
It really is far different press from the other reviews. I like the closing line about comparing Slean to all other girls on the piano, but she's one you will not forget. California being described as a funeral march was a bit odd. Gives a fair impression about who Sarah is, but seems not to reveal much about the songs on the album. Cameron Bay. |

[quote:ecfb4a39f5="ProdigyBoy"] California being described as a funeral march was a bit odd.
Cameron Bay.[/quote:ecfb4a39f5] I almost forgot to mention this one, I thought that was actually a really interesting comparison! And much better than clown music! lol ~ If this is the car, that I must drive to the job, that I must keep for the house, and a man I don't love; count me out. ~ ~ Sweet hope is glowing in your glorious eyes ~ |
