The North by Northeast festival runs from June 8-10 this year.

A preliminary list of artists who will be performing has been released (the list is a bit messy):

http://www.nxne.com/bands.html

I believe it was mentioned in another thread that Amy Millan will also be performing during the festival.

I've never been to an NXNE event. Can you purchase tickets at the door? Thanks.

Depends. Because it's a series of many many many 1-hour concerts around town, it varies from venue to venue, and performer to performer. Usually it's enough to get a wristband for the weekend (which is really quite affordable) and that will get you in free of cover and free of line. However, if you want to see a band that's even remotely popular (like the Fembots or Rheostatics last year), expect there to be a line -- and often an impassable one. If you really want to see a show and you know it'll be popular, get a wristband and go REALLY early (either before doors open for the first show that night, or a couple artists earlier). However, for the most part, I found that you could just hop from venue to venue and get in wherever. As far as NOT getting a wristband, as long as the show isn't getting full with wristband-ees then you can probably pay to get in at the door.... however each venue varies and some might not let you in without a wristband at all. Hope that helps Smiler

I'm surprised I don't recognize more artists on the list... I've heard of Joshua Bartholomew, Kinnie Starr, Lindi Ortega, Nine Mile, and NLX... perhaps the next round will be the 'big names.' I probably won't be able to make it this year (though hopefully next year!) so i'm not too saddened.

Thanks Neal .. the info is definitely quite helpful.

I wanted to see Lindi. But she's also performing at 1 AM *groans*. She is at The Art Bar @ Gladstone Hotel.

What would you suggest?

Thank you again, I really do appreciate it.

Never been to an NXNE event either. I wanted to go to the Lindi show as well, but 1am...and work the next morning...not sure about that.

I think the Art Bar is where Sarah did the Wanderlust poetry reading. It's a really tiny venue. Smaller than Free Times Cafe where Lindi did a show in March.

The full schedule for the festival has been out for a while, here's a link : http://sched.nxne.com/

I'll probably go to a few shows. Hoping to see Amy Millan, Valery Gore, maybe a few others.

i used to host an open stage at the Art Bar. it's a very cozy little venue except for when the room next door is blaring karaoke. the capacity of the room is 28, but it's definitely not an area i'd want to be leaving at 1:30 in the morning.

yen, i think i saw you at the amy millan show! were you at the right side of the stage?

i am so bad at recognizing people - i'm constantly like, "gee, that person looks familiar," but can never place them. Red Faceops:

Yeah, I was on the right side of the stage, my angle wasn't very good.

I'm pretty bad at recognizing people too. When I was in university I once walked by my roommate without even noticing; i wouldn't have even known if he hadn't said anything.

i was on the left side of the stage, so i pretty much had the same problem. i haven't resized or uploaded my photos yet, though. i've been to so many shows in the last while and shot them all, so i'm backlogged with all the resizing and uploading.
