Mel-Harmony- Masters of World Music Meet Friday, March 14th, 2008, 8pm

There is an upcoming unique evening of music blending elements from the Indian and Western Classical traditions. Award-winning classical guitarist Polivios Issariotis is bringing to Toronto audiences the fruits of his recent years of studying and performing Carnatic music in India. The concert will feature the Evestrum Ensemble, an eclectic 12-piece ensemble blending a whole medley of Eastern and Western Instruments, including complete string section, flute, clarinet, French horn, trumpet, trombone, electric guitar harmonium, tabla, tanpura and timpani. The evening’s performance will also include special guest Chitravina N. Ravikiran, internationally renowned Carnatic composer, vocalist and pioneer of the Mel-harmonic system. Mel-harmony authentically bridges the gap between Indian and Western music by adding harmony to the melodic forms of ragas, while preserving the intricacies of the raga intact(find out more at www.ravikiranmusic.com). Accompanying Ravikiran will be special guest Akkarai Shubhalakshmi, one of India’s most sought after violinists and Gowri Shankar on Mrdingam.

The evening’s program will include a selection of Ravikiran’s Mel-harmonic compositions arranged for the Evestrum Ensemble, as well as some of Mr. Issariotis’s own Mel-harmonic compositions.
