Of all of the favorite bands, singers or albums, most of them reminds me of the times of my life:

[b:ed5cc8aaeb]Cranberries & Oasis[/b:ed5cc8aaeb] - Elementary graduation.
[b:ed5cc8aaeb]Smashing Pumpkins' "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness"[/b:ed5cc8aaeb] - I met a cool pal on the first year of high school who made me listen to them.
[b:ed5cc8aaeb]Smashing Pumpkins' "Adore"[/b:ed5cc8aaeb] - First album I bought; I imagine listen to this while seeing grey outside a rainy day...
[b:ed5cc8aaeb]Smashing Pumpkins' "Siamese Dream"[/b:ed5cc8aaeb] - ...still high school...
[b:ed5cc8aaeb]Smashing Pumpkins & Nirvana[/b:ed5cc8aaeb] - I've found my independence!
[b:ed5cc8aaeb]Pearl Jam[/b:ed5cc8aaeb] - Some guy who bullied me wants me to listen to them; now we're the best of friends and a friend to many who love PJ!
[b:ed5cc8aaeb]Cranberries' hits[/b:ed5cc8aaeb] - The only girl that I had feelings for. But then went back to her ex-boyfriend...
[b:ed5cc8aaeb]Ms. Slean's song "Sweet Ones"[/b:ed5cc8aaeb] - I feel happy again!
[b:ed5cc8aaeb]Ramones[/b:ed5cc8aaeb] - First ol' skool band that rocks!
[b:ed5cc8aaeb]Ella Fitzgerald[/b:ed5cc8aaeb] - The beginning of my love to Jazz! And the best year in college (2nd year)!
[b:ed5cc8aaeb]Ms. Slean's "Day One"[/b:ed5cc8aaeb] - This is Slean year!

 Good Times!

MMMBOP (HANSON) - The innocence of childhood; elementary summer days

Kiss Me (SIX PENCE NONE THE RICHER) - Middle School. I somehow remember myself eating a popsicle with my first puppy love, in some idealist past.

Dream Brother ( JEFF BUCKLEY ) - First introduction to an adult world

Gravel (ANI DIFRANCO) - The first song I took to my chest with the impending sorrow of a breakup. You know the kind -- the one you think you'll never mend from.. and yet, you look back with childish wonder on. I suppose my first "I hate you ex" song.

You're the top! ( COLE PORTER ) - When I realized my calling in life is to perform upon a stage.

Pretty Good Year (TORI AMOS) - Ironic, truly. This song got me through one of my worst years ever.

FAKE FRENCH (LE TIGRE) - First introduction to a love of all quirky music.

ALL OF HER CD's (SARAH SLEAN) - the new era of the coming of time. Helped the akward girl with same foolish notions realize it's lack of oddity. In so many words (at which I grow a lack) has it defined a period in my life.

` I wanna be the bluebird singing
Singing to the roses in her yard
Roses in her yard her father grew for her
It's been raining like Tennessee honey
So long I got too heavy to fly
Ain't no bluebird ever gets too heavy to sing `

Maroon 5's 'she will be loved' and gavin degraw's CD both remind me of an uber crush I had earlier this year that didn't work out. Tegan and Sara and Sarah Slean's latest both kinda give me the impression that there's always more out there in every way possible if I'm willing to search for it and find it. Basically, that love and life is limitless if I'm willing to open up to it... whatever that might mean.

It's funny you mention crushes.

Back in high school I had a crush on someone who, upon first sighting, appeared to be Justin Timberlake. It's a long story, but *NSYNC had JUST come out and I had seen them on TV knowing NOTHING else about them, and saw this boi at school the next day (therefore, assumed *NSYNC was Canadian, from my town, and that at least one of them attended my high school and was this boi). In turn, developed a HUGE crush, which resulted in pretty well EVERY *NSYNC song being about him. (I Drive Myself Crazy, Tearin' Up my Heart, Bye Bye Bye being the more significant ones). hehe. There's lots more song/real life associations and I'll probably expand later but for now I should be reading and/or sleeping Smiler

Thanks BoyWonder

Ok some others

Party - Nelly Furtado -- a really horrible waste-for-the-first-time-on-beer night (followed by a sad breakup)

Sympathetic Character, Flinch, Precious Illusions - Alanis Morissette -- the boy in the aforementioned breakup. Alanis performed these songs back-to-back-to-back at a concert I saw her at about 6 months later and I totally shed a few tears

I'm With You, Avril Lavigne -- Before this even came out as a single I loved this song because it reminded me of an experience I had in Boston of meeting someone really special.... though it could never have worked out it reminded me how many special people there were in that world. By sheer coincidence I bought Avril's CD earlier that day (hadn't listened to it yet) at the store at which he worked (he wasn't at the store, we met at the aforementioned Alanis concert [funny isn't it?]), and when I eventually got back home and listened it hit such a wonderful and sad note.

Vertigo -- as mentioned in another post, the drive into Medicine Hat

Another California Song, Damhnait Doyle -- yet another boy lol. 'nuff said.

Sadly, my high school graduation song would definitely be Vitamin C's Graduation SOng Red Faceops:

Married By Elvis, Barlow -- This summer's campaign for Equal Marriage... it totally became my theme song for the month of June!!

OK, there's tons more but I don't feel like rambling anymore at the moment Smiler

Well, if everyone else is going to :P

Let's see...unfortunatley I graduated with a lot of "alt punk kids" who thought Alice Coopers "School's Out" was the best, so it was voted in. *sigh*

[b:d5909c2eb1]If You're Not The One by Daniel Beddingfield[/b:d5909c2eb1] - The song that got me through the first few months of a long distance relationship. It's "our" song still even though we're not long distance, we're happily together.

[b:d5909c2eb1]Forca by Nelly Furtado[/b:d5909c2eb1] - Reminds me of this summer and in particular going to the Calgary Stampede to see Nelly.

[b:d5909c2eb1]Nevermind by Jann Arden[/b:d5909c2eb1] - My first few months after graduation. I distinctly remember listening to this as we pulled into Banff for Sarah's concert.

Hmmmm...been mulling over responding to this one...I like the thread though. I think its funny how certain songs lock in your memory and attach to certain events/periods, even if its a song you dislike.

As the self-acknowledged old-man of the board, my list is wayyyyy too long, but here's a few "key" ones.

[b:49300f75da]Supertramp - Fool's Overture[/b:49300f75da] - well, there's no tactful way to say this...this song was playing when i lost my virginity. Some how it seems quite an appropriate title. As an aside, the CTV news show W5 used part of this song as their theme song for years....Let's just say watching W5 tended to have a somewhat pavlovian affect on me Red Faceops:

[b:49300f75da]U2 - Joshua Tree[/b:49300f75da] - the entire album, but in particular "Mothers of the Disappeared"...my father passed around this time, and that song, a heart wrenching one to begin with, never fails to bring me back to that time.

[b:49300f75da]Sting - All This Time [/b:49300f75da]- was the top CD in my player around the time my eldest son was born. I put this song on and I'm back in 1991 with him cradled in my arms dancing around the living room.

^^ Love it.

Since we're talking about 'firsts,' mine were with Duran Duran's Hungry Like The Wolf, and that Sarah McLachlan/Delerium song Silence

[I won't go into detail, but use your imagination why there's 2]

ooh, Alanis' You Oughta Know always bring me back to grade 7/8... and having an argument with my french teacher over the validity of the song -- she totally ripped it to shreds and said it didn't deserve its Grammy Awards because it was just about the word "fuck"... urgh.
