May 5 @ Supermarket

Valery's first CD is being released this Tuesday and the release party follows on Thursday, May 5.

I'm guessing most fans of the Slean will enjoy her music - check her out @ www.valerygore.com if you haven't already.

$5 door and there's already a few passioneers queued up to attend.

never been to Kensington?! *gasp* well you'll have to come to the show then huh? Wink

Living in TO has spoiled me, once you've lived here (or there rather as I'm stuck in Sudbury for just under a week more....) you never want to be anywhere else, you eventually miss the convience of the city.

` I wanna be the bluebird singing
Singing to the roses in her yard
Roses in her yard her father grew for her
It's been raining like Tennessee honey
So long I got too heavy to fly
Ain't no bluebird ever gets too heavy to sing `

I liked her set very much, and it was a great night out.

Elliott Goes and Photographs were my fave songs. I haven't picked up her album yet, but I might be more inclined to grab Royal W's. I would see Val again sometime. liked most about seeing her play was all the friendlyness between her, band, and the audience.

It was a pretty nice venue too. Simular to the rivoli in some sense.
I don't recall ever seeing that many good looking people together in a long long time. Things were pretty.

Show was terrific - both Royal Wood's opening set and Valery's extended set. She was definitely enjoying the glow of a successful CD release.

Now Magazine named it a "Critics Pick" this week with a "NNNN" rating;

Yet again the Slean is invoked as a benchmark Big Grin
[quote:267bc561e8][i:267bc561e8]There's nothing more potent than a gal and her piano. Tori Amos redefined how we look at the instrument, Sarah Slean made her concerto-like soundscapes accessible, and now Gore is breaking new ground with this worthy debut. Her quirky, poetic verse is delivered in a voice with earthy roots and cabaret flair. It's hard to grasp where the songs are heading, but this is Gore's strength. She goes from gritty tavern-blues ballad to tiptoeing as a delicate songstress, quietly chiming the piano keys. Attention to detail textures the album with a style that's confident and playful...Jessica Russell[/i:267bc561e8][/quote:267bc561e8]

Some pictures from the night. Most of them still blurred even when I played with the settings. A few of them would have been good shots, and in some I don't mind the action captured by them. Here are a few, the first 2 being the clearest.
