My friends are dying. Everything we live for is being exploited and commercialised. I don't go to a Goth club to hear Marilyn Manson (even though the man is wonderful). I go to a Goth club to be with Goths, and laugh, mope, and dance to The Cure or Bauhaus. If I wanted Manson, I'd go to some place where they play metal. When I go over to my hangout, I dont want to be hanging out with Hippies who coat their faces with make-up, and who are afraid to speak, and dont know what free love is. I want to be with the Hippies. The real ones. When I go out to an underground Punk club, I don't want to hear Good Charlotte. I never want to hear Good Charlotte. I go to a Punk club to be with Punks, and maybe dance to some old-school A.F.I, or something that is real Punk. I've never once said I'm Punk or Goth, or anything for that matter, and I never will. However I do not appreciate what these record companies are doing to true, passionate genres. Music, good music, has made me who I am today. If it wasnt for the few astounding Punk and Goth artists out there, I doubt I would be here. I need music to live, I dont need a fashion line or perfume. Music is so bad today, it actually brings me to tears sometimes. I feel so much for these girls and boys who will not and do not know Punk, or Goth. I feel for these girls and boys who say that they are, and truly believe that they are, something that they dont know. Something that is so worth knowing.
Avril once compared herself to Sid Vicious. In another quote she said she didnt know the Sex Pistols. Dont get me wrong, Im all for doing your own thing, more power to you, but doing your own thing does not involve comparing yourself to someone else, let alone someone whos work you know not of. Its just foolish. It makes me feel like there is nothing left to live for, music wise. As if everything the Goths and Punks worked for is almost gone. Maybe they should make an "Endangered Music list, and put all the best genres on it. Its funny that all the good ones are the ones that are dying... http://www.myspace.com/thechuckydangerband http://www.chuckydangerband.com |

Aw comon.
Cheer up There will always be good music. There will never be a period when good music will cease to exist. Don't let the commercial scene get you down. Hey, take our Miss Sarah Slean for example. She is undeniably true to the art of music. She gets her vidoes played, albeit rarely. She has pretty decent commercial success. There is hope, just read between the lines so to speak. The majority will always be ignorant to greater things. That is just how things work. The intellectuals will always be a small pocket of society. All you need to realize is that you are a part of that small group and everything will be alright. Ok I must stop... I feel an intense rambling mood coming on. |

To: Frisky Monkey, and whoever else cares,
Hardly. Goths are not all looks. Some may be, but those are not true Goths. Dressing in black is merely a was of telling people that we are not happy all of the time, and yes, we get depressed. We are real humans with real human emotions. Goths (most of the time) can be seen in black (not all of the time, however. I am a Goth, through I don't wear black all of the time. It's in my personality. Goth is a state of mind, moreso than anything). This is because black is a very spooky, dark colour. Goths, generally speaking, are into spooky things such as Tim Burton films, horror novels, the supernatural, or even death (sometimes). Black is also a very gloomy colour. Goths tend to focus on the opposite emotions of normal society. This is a way of showing that the people who say they are happy all of the time, and say they are doing good things are, more often than not, the ones who are starting war, beating their spouses, and doing other unthinkable things. These are good people on the outside, and bad on the inside. Goths are bad, or frightening people on the outside, but are good on the inside. The good jocks are usually the people you will see kicking the bad Goth in the gut outside of the high school. Not all Goths have to dress in black. There are many different types of Goths. Sub-genres of a sub-culture, if you will. Some Goths wear bright colours, and prance around the dance floor to a hot techno beat. These are sometimes called Candygoths, Cybergoths, Perkygoths, and even Ravers-In-Disguise, by the Goths who are not a fan of the aforementioned techno beats and bright day-glow clothing. As for black fading to gray quickly, this is sometimes the case. Some Goths wear leather, vinyl, or mesh, so the fading takes longer, or is less noticeable. And, in my humble opinion, looking like a gloomy black-clad Goth is 100% better than looking like a marshmallow Peep walking down the street. :P PS. I hope this has widened your minds somehow. I hope you now know that Goths are human, and are not sad all of the time, and do have a scene of humour, etc. As I have said before, Goth isnt all a look, it is a state of mind. I am a Goth (aswell as other things), and I am very, very proud if it. If you have any further questions dont be a stranger. As you have undoubtably gathered, I do love teaching people about my home. And now, if you and a friend of yours just happen to be walking by a darkened-windowed club with a gang of Goths walking in, and he or she does not understand, I hope you will remember the words of Rachel (though it is a lot to remember) :P. Just bare this in mind : Goth is whatever you want it to be. And, if by slip of the tongue, you or a person you know happens to poke fun, just keep in mind, that these, most likely, are people who were abused in some manner in their past, and likely continue to be. Goth is someones salvation. It is someones sanctuary, and it could be the only place that person is, or feels, safe, warm, loved, and truly at home. http://www.myspace.com/thechuckydangerband http://www.chuckydangerband.com |

[color=darkblue:189b8de9a0]I'm not trying to put down your lifestyle or anything but I still don't get it. So what you are saying is that Goths wear black to say that they are sad. I get sad and depressed but I've never felt the need to dress in black from head to toe. The whole Goth lifestyle is to rebel against the "norm" to show everyone that they are different yet they all dress the same. How does that make them different?
I've never quite understand the reason behind labeling yourself in the first place. Limiting yourself to one set thing seems to be sad. Wouldn't you want to be original? [/color:189b8de9a0] |

Oh, I'm not labelling myself. I'm Gothic, but I'm a lot more, as well. People just seem to go, oh, she said shes a Goth, so thats ALL she can ever be, but this is not the case. :P (I think I have a mild case of MPD)
It's not really to rebel against the "norm", it's just to show that looks can be deceiving. Different people have different reasons. Im not going to say its because of this or that. There are a million reasons. And not all of them dress the same. Like I said, there are sub-genres of the sub-culture. Romantigoths, Goth-a-billies, Vampiregoth, Ethergoth, Deathrocker, etc. There are tons of different styles. And it isnt all about rebelling, its more of a way of expressing your personality - or the part you feel comfortable sharing with strangers. Its the same as wearing a t-shirt sporting your favourite bands name. It serves as a great way to meet people with similar interests, also. Its just a style. The same as anything. Who knows why we, or they, do it? It makes people feel good. And dressing all in black, or whatever also is very sexy to Goths. If youre a big nerd who cant even get a girl to look at you unless shes having trouble with her homework, you can dress like a Vampire, go to the local Goth club, and the women (and men) will be throwing themselves at you. No, its not just because of the look, its also the fact that you must have something in common with them, so they will, generally speaking, take the time to get to know you. Its just doing your own thing, and feeling like youre the coolest thing in the world (and having people tell you so) while doing it. PS. An example of one of my many non-Goth sides : my hair is now pink... again. http://www.myspace.com/thechuckydangerband http://www.chuckydangerband.com |

All of my friends (except one) doesn't even know where I fit in, and that's a really beautiful compliment. And to that "excepted" good friend, he thinks I'm weird yet very original (well... he never really say that). I used to become part of the many crowds I've been, with different trends, but to me, I never care about the trends, although I enjoyed the many things from them that would cherished my life to. I wear black all over sometimes, but I ain"t a Goth. I can talk about beautiful ladies, but I ain't a Prep. I like to listen to punk music and go over to a punk bar, but I ain't a Punk. I drink a lot but I ain't an alcoholic (wait... that wasn't a style!) The point is to me is: I don't feel like a part of any lifestyles, and I tend not to, too ("2"... har har har!) A good friend told me that I'm different than any other people that he and everybody know. To me, it's good to be different and not follow the trends and styles that people follow to be cool. (Not the exact words...) "Don't change; I like the way you are," a friend told me, and I stick it that way! On the different subject, are we in the "Music In General" section? *Willy* |

Exactly. All I was doing in this tread was b*tching and moaning about how people are so quick to label, and b*tching and moaning about crappy music. I just wanted to discuss sh*tty music and why it is around, and stupid people and why they are around. I was just upset because things are getting to me. The way people act, and the way they label. Small minded people seem to be magnetically attracted to my school. And, most unfortunately, drawn to me, as well. The people who assume that because you wore a brown parka with braids in your hair that youre on drugs. Or that because you like the Sex Pistols that you go out and get p*ssed-faced every weekend.
And, yes, we are in the Music In General section. My first post was music related. http://www.myspace.com/thechuckydangerband http://www.chuckydangerband.com |

i understand how you feel rachel....when i was sixteen i felt the same way...i thought that pop culture was eating up everyone's good sense and distroying good music so i was drawn to older music at that time(60's& 70's stuff)..and then someone handed me a mixed tape (yes this is marking the time) of a band that was just comming out called nirvana....hahah that seems so long ago now..this band as every one know's killed the boy band thing (at the time new kids on the block were the big POP thing going on).
so my point is that now kids are drawn to music that the media says they "should" be listening to same as it was in 1992.. so i think that we should be gathering our mixed cd's and passing them about like we did in 1992 so that the younger generation can have the same feeling I did, and my parents did in the 1960's. s |

Life is too short to be or do anything other than be yourself. Life is all about experimentaion and finding out who you are. Society isn't perfect, I rebel against it at the same time. Prejudice is prejudice. People who are considering "different" often make terrible fun of the "preps" or whomever you want to call it, because they do the same to them. It's human nature -- we strike at anything that metamorphosizes. (it's a wonder we evolved at all, at this rate). The key is to throw pre-misconcieved notions of the world away and be true to yourself.
Remember, Goth is as much as conformity as those marshmellow peeps. It's about being true to yourself, and bearing the consequences to it. ` I wanna be the bluebird singing Singing to the roses in her yard Roses in her yard her father grew for her It's been raining like Tennessee honey So long I got too heavy to fly Ain't no bluebird ever gets too heavy to sing ` |

Urg. I hate it when people make fun of people. If they get made fun of or not, I still can't stand it. It gets me so upset.
Oh, and speaking of Peeps (the real ones, not the people-Peeps) did you know that Phenol (a super-duper-duper strong acid/chemical thingie) will not melt Peep eyes?! The eyes of a marshmellow Peep [i:5c95f92184]cannot be distroyed[/i:5c95f92184] *dun dun dah!*. Isn't that the creepiest thing? http://www.peepresearch.org/solubility.html You can find some weird stuff on the Internet if you try hard enough. http://www.myspace.com/thechuckydangerband http://www.chuckydangerband.com |
