This is my first post. A few years ago at a peace concert in natham phillips square in toronto I heard Sarah Slean play piano and sing Joni Mitchell's Woodstock. it was the most amazing musical experience I have ever had. The night was cold but the air was clear and we had worked our way all the way to the edge of the small stage. She was no more than fifteen feet away and her voice was absolutely flawless. Never have I heard anything quite so beautiful.

Where can I get a recording of Sarah Slean singing this song!

This song has actually never been recorded. I was there that night too and it was absolutely beautiful -- I remember the entire square going dead silent while she played. Magnificent.

Unfortunately, this and many other live covers have never been recorded by Sarah, and she is opposed to people making bootleg recordings of her performances (and, in turn, does not like them being discussed on the boards). I'm not sure if anyone recorded this or any other performance of this song, but even if they did this board's unwritten rules don't allow for them to be posted here. She has been known to bring this song out in concert though, so when she next performs in Toronto you might want to check her out again -- and maybe send her an e-mail before letting her know you would love to hear it again.

I totally understand about bootlegs -- and a bootleg certainly wouldn't do the quality of her voice any justice. I was just hoping that maybe somewhere it had actually been released.

But hey, Sarah, record this on an album. Please! It is stunning. I sent an email to that effect (using the old version of this site) right after I heard it and I guess I was checking back in the hope that it might have since happened on some compilation somewhere.

Maybe she doesn't want to record it because she isn't keen on instant mega-stardom. That would be a valid concern, it was that beautiful!

hehe. Well put. We've been bugging her for a while to put together a professional live album... who knows... she's been busy touring, recording videos, preparing an art show, writing a musical, and writing a new album -- perhaps it will make it to the list one day

This show has come up many times in my google searchs under the Toronto Video Activists Collectives. The videos on their site are down now and no indication that sarah was recorded, but it would be neat to see/catch the experience.

She did haunting version of this song at the White Ribbon Benefit show back in June. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it...wow.
