This is going to sound very random but CHUM hasn't played Sarah since 8/12/2005 12:15 AM ... methinks she's officially fallen out of their favour again Frowner

Good news is though, with Beachfest coming up, the Mix will likely play more of her (and, hopefully, older stuff too!)

Week ending August 12 (eek!)
41 plays on 6 stations. Theresa Sokyrka got 57 plays :S
And for some reason they moved her from "Hot AC" to "AC"... not sure why...

She didn't get moved. She must have lost airplay on Hot AC so she was removed from the N&A list (N&A only lists songs that are below the Top 30 that are gaining in airplay or received new adds from radio stations). So coincidentally the week she wasn't listed under Hot AC was the same week she got enough airplay to be listed on AC.

OK, sorry for triple-posting, but I totally and randomly freaked out on my drive back from Ottawa. I was flipping through the radio and all of a sudden landed on a station that was playing Mary!! 98.3 in Kingston, FlyFM.

The stats from last week haven't changed, so the 5 stations playing her include Mix 99.9 Toronto, FlyFM 98.3 Kingston... anyone know the other 3?

AC and Hot AC just different formats, the way a radio station is labeled as Rock or Pop or Country, AC and Hot AC are two other formats that a radio station will label themselves as. AC tend to be more adult-geared playing songs by Celine Dion for example while Hot AC play more rocky type stuff without going alternative.

So does the listing just rank songs on the chart that describes the majority of the stations the song is played on?

The chart ranks the songs in order of airplay from most to least. The area of the chart that Sarah was listed under was just before the Top 30. The Top 5 songs below the Top 30 that received either an increase in airplay or an increase in stations.

Right, sorry, I understood that. I meant... what is the criteria for selecting which particular list (AC, Hot AC, etc. ) the song ends up on? Is it based on the radio stations that play her -- i.e. if it's mostly HotAC stations it'll be on that list, if it's mostly AC stations it'll be on that list, if it's mostly Rock it'll be on that list, etc.??

Stations decide themselves, I think? Either that or the company that compiles the list (Soundscan or Mediabase or whatever) decides what each individual station is. C100 in Halifax, for example, I think is considered to be a Hot AC station.

Right .... but what determines which LIST the song ends up on? Like what happens when, for example, "Mary" gets played on 4 Hot AC stations and 6 AC stations??? Would the plays on the Hot AC stations get ranked on the Hot AC List, and the plays on the AC stations get ranked on the AC List?? Or would ALL its plays be listed on the AC chart because most of them are on AC stations??

I know I'm a little behind, but I was wondering if anyone had an mp3 of the radio mix. Here in the US (especially the west), we only get to hear Mr. Slean once in a blue moon. I'd really appreciate a copy :-)

If the song gets played on a Hot AC station, it's considered spins toward the total for the Hot AC chart. There's absolutely no intermingling between the formats. Consider them as different as a country and hip-hop station in this sense. Both are independent. Basically, the list is the most played songs among all the Hot AC stations and the AC list is the most played songs among all the AC stations.

oh, that's frustrating. So an artist that spans the two can never be as 'officially' successful as they probably would be if you combined the two charts?

So, just to clarify, if Artist X gets played 30 times on a country station, and 50 times on a hip-hop station, they'll show up as 30 plays on the country chart and 50 on the hip-hop chart???
hmm... this bothers me lol.
