Our Sleanster is up for just one award, Best Adult Alternative Album of the Year. She's up against a pretty solid bunch: Sarah Harmer, Matt Mays, Ron Sexsmith and Rufus Wainwright. C'MON SARAH! SNAG A JUNO!

A quote from canoe.ca

"There are 39 categories this year including a new one, best adult alternative album. Juno organizers, the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, hope the fresh category will embrace some of the country's more eclectic musicians, who often get pushed out of the top categories by mainstream artists.

Mays, Sexsmith, Sarah Harmer, Sarah Slean and Rufus Wainwright will compete for the award. "

Interesting! Thanks to you both!

Though I am rooting for sarah slean, I have a feeling Sarah Harmer will be walking away with this one.

And what's with Feist being nominated best new artist? She's been around longer than Fefe Dobson has been in school.

I think that Sarah should have been nominated for "Album Of The Year" or "Pop Album Of The Year" for "Day One". Celine Dion's "Miracles" should not been there. :? Frowner The Tragically Hip will win for "Album Of The Year"!

this is posted as news on the homepage.

eek, i didn't even notice the hip released an album over the past year. i guess by that same token i was unaware of kd lang and bryan adams producing work over the year.

fiest is nominated also for video of the year. i only saw that video one time but i recalled liking it.

death from above, the arcade fire, and stars are also up for awards.

Sarah does have a break in her tour and looks like she could make the show.

Like Nik, I'm gunning for the sleanster but I have a feeling either Harmer or Rufus will take this one.

I have high hopes for the Sleanster.. but like a bunch of people mentioned. I think Rufus or Harmer is taking home the cigar

we might be surprised folks, but alas probably not.

I wouldn't put much weight behind rufus, although I like "Want Two" (both copies :P ), it just didn't get much buzz...at least from what I could see.

Sarah's gotten more media coverage, buzz and video play then everyone, with the exception of Harmer (the obvious favourite), but Sleaner's buzz is more current and is still happening, ie. with her current headlining tour, I think she's got an outside shot at catching Harmer, but perhaps I'm just biased a bit. Big Grin

Go Sleaner Go!

that's a good point. Harmer maybe a more popular name, but as for the most current exposure, Slean might be a better bet. though i'm sure that's not all it's based on.

Cheers.

Remember... many of these awards are not based on talent, but on record sales... Tragically hip are not nominated, heh heh.

That new category is quite nice. Although I haven't listened to the Rufus Wainwright album, "Day One" is the best out of the rest.

Ryan Malcolm getting nominated makes me want to cry...

They best give Sexsmith his props this year in the song writing category. What's his name from Nickleback won last year if I remember right... uh huh.

Very happy David Francey is nominated yet again for roots and traditional.

I agree Johnathan, Ryan Malcolm getting nominated takes the credibility of the Juno's away a tiny bit.

WHY!? People don't even know if he's alive...let alone listen to his record...

Lately in the past years, I think that almost all "credible" awards shows have turned downwards with awarding less so worthy people.
