Here is a description:
Sarah Slean, Danny Michel, Andy Maize of the Skydiggers, Martin Tielli of Rheostatics fame and John Southworth...They'll be performing together in Toronto this week, playing completely new, previously unheard songs inspired by one piece of music by legendary composer, Franz Schubert. The event is called, Schubert: Source and Inspiration Concert, and it takes place March 15th and 16th at Harbourfront Centre's Enwave Theatre (231 Queens Quay W).Art of Time Ensemble, a groundbreaking chamber music group led by Artistic Director and pianist Andrew Burashko are behind this event. Their mission is to inspire innovative and creative performances such as this one.Ten new songs will be premiered at the show, entirely composed by the songwriters noted above. Each artist was given a clear task by Burashko: write two songs, in your own style and voice, that incorporate Franz Schubert's iconic Piano Trio #2 in E flat, D. 929. They were allowed to sample as much or as little as they liked... in other words, total creative freedom.

...if this is all we've got to fight for, rage my darling rage...

CBC did a great job with the concert. It sounded just like being there again. They mixed up the order in which the show was presented but that was alright.

I was really happy to hear it again. Hopefully they put in in their archive.

Hi!
Portions of the concert were played again last night on radio 2's The Signal, which were interspersed with some interesting commentary from the director Andrew Burashko in between. Knowledge of this probably won't do anyone any good seeing as how the broadcast has already occured, but during the broadcasting of, the host hinted that the performance would be made avaliable for streaming online. And what do you know, there it is! http://www.cbc.ca/radio2/singleConcert.html?20070426schub

I am so upset that "Lonely Side of the Moon" and "The Rose" can't be downloaded. They are so gorgeous! I hope to goodness that these end up on her upcoming album (and goodness knows when that will be released :s) But these live versions are so... wow. Her voice is so beautiful ;-;

I finally had time to check out the CBC site for the Art of Time show and it's amazing! I'm loving Lodestar, one of my favourite songs done completley different. Jumping head first back into the world of slean!

They put it online earlier today and played it on the radio this evening during Canada Live.

A little bird had told me the date of the show brodcast being today back during the day of the concert but I was hoping to see it scheduled on CBC before I made a littleslean posting. Thankfully I knew the online archive is a nice safety net.

Over the last while I haven't had the time to post updates to littleslean. I'm still tracking all news around her and will post if anything 'big' comes up. In the mean time, Sarah's been doing her weekly blog...
