Figured I'd bring this into its own thread since we'll be discussing it long after the Hillside buzz has died down. The website for Fuse is http://www.cbc.ca/bandwidth/fuse/# , but right now it has shows scheduled up until September 4th (Ron Sexsmith and Sam Roberts? really? interesting.) only; none of which include Sarah and Buck 65, or the Arts & Crafts label recorded on the Saturday.

Here's the excerpt from my blog about this particular recording. The link above also has a link to listen live -- so whenever it does get scheduled people around the world can listen Smiler

My blog excerpt:

Anyways, they set up for CBC Fuse, and two people were conspicuously absent -- Sarah Slean and Buck 65. They arrived in a shuttle van about 5-10 minutes late, but it wasn't too big of a deal because the show itself is only about half an hour long. This show was probably Sarah's best of the weekend. And Buck 65 is really quite brilliant, I really really like him. The format was typical of a CBC music show -- some talking, some songs. Fuse refers to fusing together more than one act, so they were encouraged to play with one another. Sarah opened the show with My Song, which she confessed she probably should have played the day before during the unrecorded songs set (which is ironic because now it's recorded -- by CBC at least). She was asked to discuss it a bit, and she talked about the despair of first being in the cabin, and how she felt the same way when she moved into her new apartment on the west side (yes, apparently amongst all the other commotions we stopped asking if she'd found a place to live yet)... discussed how she felt when she wrote the song, how there are scary people living near her lol. Buck then did a song, I dont' know his songs so I don't remember any of the titles. Some more talking, including some of their influences and what they listened to growing up. The host then asked Sarah to perform either a song of her own or a song of one of her influences. Sarah said she had a perfect idea, which I immediately assumed to be I'll Never Smile Again, but no! She surprised even me, and did a song from one of the 70's albums she grew up near, All My Trials by Joan Baez. Another Buck 65 song, this time featuring Sarah on the guitar and backup vocals! They were then told there was time for more songs, but it seemed as if there might only be time for another Sarah song, and not Buck ~ it wasn't clear. After a brief moment of confusion Sarah and Buck mentioned they had something in mind that they could do together, which was met enthusiastically. They then mentioned they both had the same affection for Tom Waits, and performed a relatively unknown song by him called Tabletop Joe to close off the show. Quite brilliant. Fuse airs Sunday mornings on CBC 1 and in stereo on CBC 2 Sunday afternoons. Not sure when this particular one will air, website is http://www.cbc.ca/bandwidth/fuse/#

Thanks for the info Neal.

Ember Swift's set on Saturday was also recorded by CBC - not sure if it was for the FUSE show, but they did mention it was future re-broadcast.

I'll post when/if i find some more details.

Actually I got the indication that ALL the performances all weekend were being recorded for potential CBC broadcasts. This was one of the only two that were explicitly linked to a particular show.

No details up on the CBC Fuse website, but damn, the lineup for the next couple of months looks awesome;

Feist, Kathleen Edwards, Hawksley to name but three.

*turns dial to CBC every sunday*

I heard back from Amanda.

"We're not yet sure when those will air, but keep watching either the Bandwidth or Fuse web pages for updates."

Probally sometime in Fall. October maybe.

Anyone heard any news on this? I've tried e-mailing her but never got a response... and the website has no info on it.

I emailed Amanda before the work stopage. It took her sometime to reply but she did. Smiler

We won't miss it.

FINALLY got a reply today Smiler

Hi Neal,

As of right now we don't have a date. Fuse has been "renewed" for another round of new shows, and last we heard they will begin airing in late January, early February. I don't think the Sarah/Buck 65 one will be on anytime before that.

Keep checking back on the site www.cbc.ca/bandwidth/fuse and you can even sign up for the BW newsletter so it comes to your inbox each week as a reminder!

Thanks for checking in,
Amanda

Fuse has a time slot again, finally! I got an e-mail today announcing it was being re-launched. Unfortunately, no Slean/Buck until after May. Here's the e-mail:

Hello patient Fuse fans,

We're very excited to finally announce a timeslot for the second season of Fuse. Starting April 8, tune in at 9PM on Saturday nights for some stupendous musical mashups. Here's the first few episodes to whet your appetite:

April 8: Special Juno show (details TBA)
Stay tuned for a special live-from-Halifax show of Juno-nominated artists.

April 15: Ridley Bent, Ndidi Onukwulu & Madagascar Slim
Ridley Bent does a kind of "hick hop," telling compelling stories over acoustic guitar and hip hop beats. Madagascar Slim is a master of African-influenced blues guitar, whose laid-back licks back the powerful pipes of up-and-coming blues sensation Ndidi Onukwulu. With all three in front of a live studio audience, it's a truly cross-cultural mix.

April 22: Colin Linden & Alana Levandoski
There's no blues guitar lick Colin Linden can't conquer. And there's no song Alana Levandoski can't sing with true-blue heart and soul. Together on Fuse, the two musicians ignite a full hour of organic roots-rock

April 29: Carolyn Mark & Great Lake Swimmers' Tony Dekker
Carolyn Mark is the sassy country cooner who leads hootenannys all across the country. Tony Dekker is the gentle troubadour who records sweet waltzing ballads as Great Lake Swimmers. The combination of feisty and delicate is a sure case of opposites attract on Fuse.

May 6: Sam Roberts & Ron Sexsmith
Gentle troubadour meets scruffy rocker and they get along just fine. Fuse takes Sam Roberts' soaring rock and roll choruses and pairs them up with the evocative songwriting of Ron Sexsmith. They join forces for the sweetest of Ron's ballads and the catchiest of Sam's hits.

May 13: Agnostic Mountain Gospel Choir & Madrigaia's Sarah Dugas and Andrina Turenne
The Agnostics aren't really a choir. And their brand of gospel of more rough and rockin' than most. But they'll turn you into believers with a blend of blues, clanking percussion and hollerin' testimonials. The good news is that much sweeter with the added vocal talent of Winnipeg's Sarah and Andrina. From the funk of Rudimental to the angelic voices of Madrigaia, there's no style these voices can't cover with soul. Recorded live in Edmonton.

May 20: Andy Stochansky & Eccodek's Andrew McPherson
Andrew McPherson is the man of many voices, from the ambient worldbeat rhythms of Eccodek to the jaunty commercial jingles he composes. Andy Stochansky came in from left field with an album of oddly pretty ditties, then settled down into some smart pop-rock. Together, genres are smashed as Andy's melodies jut up against Andrew's dub-heavy loops.

May 27: Jim Bryson & Lynn Miles
They both come from Ottawa, and they both write classic tunes, but Lynn Miles and Jim Bryson have never actually worked together before. Fuses fixes that by plunking them down together in front of a live studio audience. And in between hilarious and self-deprecating banter, they get down to business and play some beautifully crafted songs.

Also stay tuned for more musical magic from [b:e0d5bd41b2]Sarah Slean & Buck 65[/b:e0d5bd41b2], Choclair & Hawksley Workman, Jason Collett & Al Tuck, Peter Elkas & Alanna Stuart, Kiran Ahluwalia & Mighty Popo, Karla Anderson & Jack Semple and many, many more...

And, if that weren't enough, we have a few more live tapings coming your way. Plenty of Fuse to carry you right through spring & beyond!

Cheers,
Caitlin, Bill & Amanda (aka The F-Unit)

Thanks Neal,
So now I just have to keep an eye on DNTO to see when the second part of Sarah's main stage set might be played.
