I first heard Sarah off the Women & Songs 2 compliation. I heard "I Know" and I simply melted away. Incredible. Blown away! Then when Night Bugs came out ... *SNATCH* Smiler ... and the rest is history. I still adore that song today.. *flies*.. Big Grin

^ i first heard sarah on the women & songs 2 compilation too. i remember buying it on boxing day and it was really cheap!

then a few summers ago, at my favourite cushy summer office job, a coworker and i were talking about music. she asked me, "have you heard of a singer named sarah slean?" i knew the name, but couldn't remember from where. my coworker told me she'd seen sarah at the trinity st. paul's show and that the show was one of the best she'd ever been to.

then, cluing in that this sarah slean had a song on the women & songs cd i had and hearing "sweet ones" on the radio, i ran out and bought nightbugs without a second thought.

i actually bought both nightbugs and blue parade USED. who would be so silly to take those cds out of their collection??

paramour music on myspace.

I first heard Sarah's name on an Our Lady Peace bootleg. They played an acoustic, pianobased version of their song Julia, and introduced it with "this song was given to us on a cassette tape, in a very different version, by a girl named Sarah Slean from Toronto."

That sparked my curiosity, but I didn't do much with it until I found Narcolepsy Weed on a filesharing program. Recognising the name, I downloaded the song, but thought it was too slow and quiet for my taste (how foolish I was).

A few months later I found her three first albums in their entirety on another filesharing program and downloaded them. I fell in love with Blue Parade first, but Night Bugs and Universe quickly followed. By now I have bought Night Bugs and Day One, with Blue Parade and Universe on their way to me from MapleMusic. I saw her live last year and will jump at any chance to see her again.

Interestingly...

Narcolepsy Weed is a song that sarah seldom plays live (probably for the fact that it is slow and quiet and most audiences... even the best ones, are impatient and noisy)... though I do remember a quote from an oooold interview where she said it was among her favorites to play live...

she feels like she "goes away somewhere."

A shame, such a wonderful song, I would so love to hear it live. And although the new "rocker" slean is awesome, I'd love to see her perform more than a 2-number "quiet" set sometime.

PS, Welcome to our little community Lydia. Big Grin

What a pity.. she is going to hate me at the next concert. I wanted to suggest for her to play that song and count me out, along with the glenn gould song. One of them would make me happy haha

` I wanna be the bluebird singing
Singing to the roses in her yard
Roses in her yard her father grew for her
It's been raining like Tennessee honey
So long I got too heavy to fly
Ain't no bluebird ever gets too heavy to sing `

hey there Your Wish =)

i'm not from pickering, i'm from scarborough, and i didn't go to highschool with sarah (i'm guessing that's what DHS is? dunbarton?) i was in the songwriters' association back in '96 and so was sarah. i met her there very briefly at a meeting and told her that i thought habit was lovely. interestingly, several years later i sort of opened for her (i say sort of because my friend was actually the opening act - i was her harmony vocalist) at hart house at UofT. sarah was fantastic that night. i remember it was the first time i heard california... and she played edelweiss as her encore which was really sweet.

thanks for visiting my site! i'll definitely let you know when i'm playing again.

Sarah played HART HOUSE??!!? OMG HOW did I miss that? I really wish I'd been introduced to her much sooner and more rigorously! lol. What an amazing venue... I didn't even know they had concerts there!

~ If this is the car, that I must drive to the job, that I must keep for the house, and a man I don't love; count me out. ~

about 3 years ago, WBER had Sweet Ones in rotation. I heard that, and was hooked. I downloaded night bugs since it was nowhere to be found. Later that year I saw her live which was the best concert of my life, and I got blue parade, universe, and nightbugs on the spot. been a pasioneer since then.
