Anything by Nabokov - His mastery of the English language is worth reading alone.

Of course, how could i forget him on my list.

Reminds me of this glorious afternoon I had back in the summer. Went down to the beaches to meet friends for the saturday night jazz street fest, but went down about 8 hrs early @ 10am.

Sat under a big, old weeping willow tree in Kew Gardens, glorious sunshine and blinding blue sky overheard, wonderful music filling the air and read "Invitation to a Beheading" cover to cover. Of course it was only when I turned the last page that I realized my face was a tad "warm".

note to self - before diving into a good book while sitting in the July sun, remember to put sunblock on.

I personally found Handmaid's tale sloppy. It has a brilliant concept, but it could have been executed better.

that's my two cents

Yeah thats pretty much my feeling on the Handmaid's Tale as well.

It had the groundwork to become so much more than it was. Again, not saying it was terrible by any means. The last part of the book (the part in the future) really should have been left out. Would have made for a much better ending that way.

I completely agree. She painted a lovely scene of desolation.... and though I am all for having hope... this was a little rosy for my liking.

It reminds me of that movie Artificial Intelligence. It wasn't too bad until it went all futuristic with the aliens. They should have just left it with him staring at the statue. It was perfect.

The World According to Garp... good, but odd. I liked the whole piece of literature inside a piece of literature... but that whole part near the beginning where she let the grown man suckle her like a baby... WEIRD.

yeah i agree, that was a little weird
