Has any one explored the material in the Vitamins section? I already read [i:2562c1b058]Birthday Letters[/i:2562c1b058] by Ted Hughes some time ago and I quite enjoyed it. I am currently reading [i:2562c1b058]How the Mind Works[/i:2562c1b058] which is useful and amusing because it integrates many of things I am currently studying in Psychology into my daily life.

I think we should list some of our own Vitamins too...here are a couple from me for now:

[b:2562c1b058]Devendra Banhart[/b:2562c1b058]
Folk music without narrative...captures tiny idiosyncrancies in his lyrics that grandly depict an individual's personality. A voice like a high wire that is in two words soulful and emotional. What is most interesting about Devendra's lyrics is that he connects spiritual ideas to basic objects such as "golden corn" which, to me, conveys the idea that spirituality exists in the here and now not in some distant place. His music makes me reflective and emotional...difficult to remove yourself from it...it's not background music.

[b:2562c1b058]Wool Mittens[/b:2562c1b058]
It's getting cold outside. And these are my favourite things to keep me warm. Clementines are pretty great too. Not for keeping you warm but for avoiding colds.

Clementines I eat like chips in the winter months...just one piece of delicious sweetnes after another...

[b:54640d9614]Phantom Planet[/b:54640d9614]
I have a small obsession...but their new album is excellent (kind of grunge-pop), and definitely worth the listen. And for you OC fans out there, you know what I'm talking about (I don't wathc OC though).

[b:54640d9614]Solar Storms, by Linda Hogan[/b:54640d9614]
Yes, I'm reading this for a class, but it's beautiful...just beautiful. There is so much depth to Hogan's writing, that I'm not even going to attempt to describe it, but she's managed to convince me that water has life, so if that isn't powerful, I don't know what is.

` I wanna be the bluebird singing
Singing to the roses in her yard
Roses in her yard her father grew for her
It's been raining like Tennessee honey
So long I got too heavy to fly
Ain't no bluebird ever gets too heavy to sing `

Okay, maybe I do have a few recommendations:

The [b:cb50574fe7]Stars[/b:cb50574fe7] are amazing! I can't stop listening to "Elevator Love Letter," it's the prettiest thing I have heard in quite a while.

Also, [b:cb50574fe7]Hayden[/b:cb50574fe7]'s "Elk-Lake Serenade"! So so so very good! Big Grin

I am sure I will feel more inspired a little later on. Smiler

good choices. All three Stars albums I own are phenomenal. Their newest album "Set Yourself on Fire" is spectacular.

And Hayden? Well, let's just say I have happy dreams about that man.

I know, I was so tempted to buy that yesterday, but I have vowed not to buy any CDs until I have saved up a little more. Hehe.

Hayden is so awesome, although I have just gotten into him. He is really cute, too. Big Grin

[b:b8a239df4c]Carnivale[/b:b8a239df4c]

It's a series on HBO, if you have HBO on demand you can catch the complete first season. The show is increibily deep in meanning and full of symbolism (mostly religious). The story is full of mystery and sorrow...it's kind of depressing but addicting. Also the acting is top notch. Best series I have seen in years...

here's what the show is about (from hbo.com)
[quote:b8a239df4c]
CARNIVALE follows a traveling carnival as it wends its way across the Dust Bowl, focusing on Ben Hawkins, a mysterious 18-year-old fugitive with hidden talents who is taken in by the carnival, and Brother Justin, the charismatic, shadowy evangelist who will ultimately cross his path. The series takes place at a time of worldwide unrest, with evil on the rise around the globe and the Great Depression wreaking economic and social havoc here at home.[/quote:b8a239df4c]

Carnivale is indeed quite the show. I'd love to own the dvd set that is out now but it's terribly expensive.
