My entry into the wonderful world of slean was via the CBC radio interview with Alan Neal at the beginning of October. Prior to that I'd had some vague memory of Sarah, and after purchasing Night Bugs, it was clear I'd heard Sweet Ones before.

I was stuck in heavy traffic on the dreaded Don Valley Parkway (how appropriate is that name) in Toronto, not particularly paying attention when this voice caught my ear. This voice filled with joy and passion. This voice talking about the character and history and spirit that lives within a piano....

Huh?

Who is this woman? was my first thought.

About 90 minutes later I walked out of the local record store with a fresh copy of Day One in my hot little hands and I was hooked.

I used to hear 'Sweet Ones' on OZfm in early 2002 and then eventually found out who she was so I downloaded the song Red Faceops: and it made my chart (http://www.geocities.com/themaxonline) and in 2003, I was listening online to OZfm for the Top 10 @ 10 and this song came on at like #7 or something and I'm like "I know this" and I realized it was Sarah Slean's 'Weight' (I downloaded some other Sarah stuff to sample it) so eventually, that hit #2 on my chart (link above). Earlier in 2004, 'Lucky Me' hit #1 as well.
All in all, I did end up buying 'Night Bugs' after 'Weight'.

I first saw Sarah opening for Sarah Harmer back in September of 2001 (I skipped my second Statistics lecture of university to attend! lol)... I liked her somewhat, and a friend of mine was freaking out over her - she didn't even stay for Sarah Harmer! lol... anyways I didn't really hear or see much of her 'til the new year, when CHUM started playing Sweet Ones... I fell in love with the song, bought the album and never turned back!!! Went to the Trinity-St. Paul's show which was absolutely magical, and then the Brock show 6 months or so later. Met her for the first time at the Brock show and totally fauned (sp?) over her, it was rather embarassing... I basically told her this whole story... now I'm much cooler around her... but it's so fun to see all the new fans go all ga-ga, it's so cute and reminds me of when I was like that only a couple years ago! hehe

i ebcame obsessed with "I know" which i believe i heard of off a women and songs compilation and ever since i've been hooked....i got onto the internet and listened and then ordered all the cds from hmv....ooops! haha....and here i am a few years later....

i had a mixed tape i made of songs from blue parade and universe that i listened to on a 2 hour busride home in the winter and it was like every song was meant to be for that moment....how does anyone write music like that? it's amazing....it made me cry!

simply, with the Sweet Ones video. actually it was just a clip. they showed it on NightLife on that CFMT station, now called OMNI ONE. the guy did a short interview w/ her too.

it was all over after that point. i had joined the slean cult forever.

Cheers.

I cannot remember how I discovered Sarah Slean. I believe I was on the umbrellamusic website and I watched the video High. I do, however, have a vivid memory of the first time I listened to Night Bugs. I journeyed to downtown Halifax to buy the CD and I brought my CD player along with me so I could listen to the CD on my walk home. I bought the CD and as I was walking past the flying buttresses on a grand gothic church Eliot flowed through my ears.

I totally forgot abotu danny opening for her back in '02.. that was great!! I was like 2 feet away from him, he's so entertaining.... especially when he's doing it solo 'cause he has no one to talk to but himself and the audience. Smiler
That's so random we've been at a lot of the same shows... maybe I *do* know you.. :?

I saw her on TV on CBC when she performed a song from her "Night Bugs" CD when Sarah performed at the Genie Awards show back in early 2003. I bought the "Night Bugs" CD at the HMV Store in Windsor, Ontario at the Devonshire Mall back in May of 2003. I do not have her "Day One" CD as of yet. Matt Clark Sanford, MI

An ex-girlfriend introduced me to Sweet Ones and the Night Bugs album. I loved it. Took me another few months to get into her though, and now I'm hopeless Big Grin

First time I was introduced to Ms. Slean's world is the "Sweet Ones" video playing on MuchMoreMusic... After I saw the video for the first time, my heart starts beating again! That was when I was out of a little affair with a friend who was separated from her boyfriend, and man, I was glad but heartbroken at the same time 'cause I had feelings for her. I was in bed most of the times just thinking about her, but when I saw the video, it made me get over and feel that everything's gonna be alright...

Thank you, Ms. Slean, for cheering me up!

My first exposure to Sarah was late one night when I couldn't sleep. Talk TV was airing a repeat of Sarah's visit to the Vikki Gabereau show. I was just flipping through and stopped when I saw/heard Sarah playing Duncan. I was hooked!

If you replace "Sweet Ones" with "Weight", you've got my story right there.

I saw the Sweet Ones video on Muchmusic. I had been reading Interview With the Vampire at the time and the music video really reminded me of New Orleans and the theatrics that went with it. After that I just DL every song by her got hooked and bought the cds.

I was working my last shift at HMV after 2 years there, and behind the counter was a CD with a beautiful face on the cover. Since there were no managers working near the end of my shift, I had freedom to play what I wanted, so I put the CD in. I got to hear 2 or 3 songs, and absolutely fell in love.

I came home, looked Sarah up online, and found out she was playing in Winnipeg in less than a week. I downloaded a couple more songs to make sure I knew what I was getting myself into, bought 2 tickets, and found a friend to go to the concert. I was blown away with her live show (as was my friend, who's seen Sarah with me 2 other times now) and she has since become my favourite solo artist. Smiler
